Ain’t nothing good lasts forever
things are never what they seem
even when you do right
life can make it wrong

You fight to keep straight and narrow
but it’s always lurking; waiting
ready to pounce on weaknesses
and your dreams of razor blades

He shouldn’t have to drag you
to places to keep you safe; where
Needles of sleep are in your arm
and self-hatred lies in your gut

When the fog of gloom leaves you
more tired than you can know
and His strong hand strokes your face
but you don’t deserve the eyes of love.

you failed Him all over again
something you do so very well
His kind words ring in your head
you know that they’re all lies

These drugs they say will keep away
the moody roller coaster of doom
they dampen down your courage
to follow through with what’s right

In days to come you’re zombiefied
numb to your very core
But they all celebrate; victorious
they managed to keep you alive.

So, you live to fight another day
He tells you to just believe
when you are blinkered in misery;
your faith in Him is all there is.
