tim's Bits and Pieces - 27. Forevermore

Forevermore

I sit,

arms around my knees while staring up at the stars.

And I wonder which of them is ours—our witness—

the holder of our history.

For there cannot have been a love like this before,

as old as this.

We cannot have loved only once.

Once would not garner such want, such need, and

such desire.

For I know … I know, should your finger lay on my cheek,

it would be the end of this dam in my heart.

And all the eons of love,

all the whispered words;

all of them ever spoken

by our lips,

would fill the Universe.

They would fill us up and bind me to you

Forevermore.

Excellent poem, my Brother. Two things came to my mind when I read it.

First, it reminded me of a song from the movie An American Tail called Somewhere Out There, one of the best duets I've ever heard.

Second, was a duet of your own. I don't see this as a stand-alone piece. I feel that it is a continuation of A Walk on the Riverbank, and this is how I tied them together.

At the end of Riverbank, our narrator is in turmoil. He has this profound love that needs to be released, but it's been dammed up, much like the water that was in the river, held at bay by the distance that separates them. Now we see him, sitting by a tree or a large rock---in my mind, he's next to a tree---next to that dry riverbank at night, looking up to the sky. While he's looking for the star that bore witness, to what he and his distant paramour did before they were separated. His memories come to him, and the sadness of the love he has dammed up still remains while he wishes upon the star that he sought for a release.

mmm thanks, A.  your comments are beautiful, thank you.

This … this is a beautiful poem. Its intensity leaves me somewhat speechless. I love the idea of stars being our historians. Also I like the idea that when one lover touches the other, it is the key to release all. There is much feeling here, I can nearly touch it. And you are correct, it is a beautiful companion piece to Mac's poem.  Well done, boy xo.

thank You, Sir ... thank You xoxo

as often happens with poetry, yours in particular, emotions come first

sometimes hard and fast, but always the emotions first

then the words, sometimes they come hard and fast, in a jumble

this one is the same

there is longing, and hope in these words that is palpable

and the image of a dam bursting and all the love rushing out is a beautifully powerful one

thank you for sharing your heart with us this way

I loved this phrasing!! ❤️  ❤️ Such a unique way of looking at the stars;  Such a knowingly beautiful way to describe love.

Thank you, tim.

thank you.  love is such a difficult thing to describe ... the love in this, the feeling is so physical i think if these lovers ever touched ... it would be the supernova described in the poem by MacGreg.  Which is a fitting companion to this even though they were written a year apart.

thank you very much for your wonderful comments ... never doubt they are wanted and welcome.  xoxo
