tim's Bits and Pieces - 90. Celebration

This is a partner to, A Goodbye (chapter 87). This poem is written after my Father in Law's celebration of life, which took place this last Sunday, May 28, 2023

Peace

Peace

With blessed kindness, it settles onto all present

His life was full

Of love, joy and laughter

Of no regrets

And I awaken today lighter in that knowledge

Having seen him through the eyes

Of friends and family,

Many of them strangers to me

He had been in life

So much more than I ever knew

And he is missed and will be

From the hearts of several generations

For some time to come

Rest in peace, Pops

It always amazes me to hear stories and to see a side of someone I knew and/or loved from other people's perspectives. No matter how close we are to someone, there is always a side of them that another person knows and we had no idea existed.

I always disliked the traditional Catholic funerals I went to when I was younger. They were too somber and the Mass itself depressing.

The first Celebration of Life I went to was eye-opening. It showed me that death doesn't have to be all tears and sadness. It's okay to laugh and reminisce with joy and happiness.

Beautiful poem tim ❤️

It was eye-opening, for sure. So many people said, Oh, you're his son-in-law, he told us so much about you.  i didn't know half of them. There were no church or funeral home services. Michael's mom had him cremated several days after he passed, and then it was a month later the celebration took place. It was a little sad because he wasn't there, but mostly it was full of joy and laughter and memories.  It was just how he'd wanted things. i think it was a good way.

Thanks, k.  xo

Thank you for this, tim.  Dad was a wonderful man. you're right, we were lucky to have had him in our lives. The Celebration was generational. Babies to a ninety-two year old so, he will be remembered as you say.

Thanks, boy. xo
