tim's Bits and Pieces - 106. A Story and a Sleeve

Some of you may know that in addition to writing fiction, and poetry, I enjoy cooking, baking and I also knit. Lately, i've been feeling meh and restless. This poem is about that.

***

Boredom is a new companion
there, like the weather
Before me, a blank page, an unknit hank,
waiting for me to use it.

Restlessness brings anxiety
like a worm under the skin
nudging me toward yarn and words,
then running off when I get near.

I cast on socks in the round,
heel stitches picked up, the yarn in my lap.
Then an endless road of a scarf and matching hat,
The sweater needs both courage and math.

The small toy fits in your palm
stitched-up with brave button eyes
Then the page calls me and I write
until sentences unravel and I start again.

I make a vow to myself, one heel turned
one paragraph done, not to cure my angst
but leaving something real,
like a story and a sleeve.

***

I never know when the itch to write will strike next. Sometimes that moment is lost, sometimes I open my book, only to be confronted with the empty page like a wall against which my thoughts turn to dust.

Again you have captured moments so poignantly. Thank you!

And Micheal's suggestion sounds like a good idea for me, too.

Gardening is definitely a great way for me to ground myself...

I like this. Creativity is never a straight line. It's all over the damn place. We pick things up, put them down, hear them calling us from the shower, then watch ideas evaporate as soon as we sit down. The key is the stubbornness to just stick with it.

My hobbies are writing, weightlifting, video gaming, cooking, and watching geeky things on YouTube.

I have ordered house maintenance for dummies...thanks for the suggestion and for reading this.  No, it's not a straight line. I kinda do what i want every day, though cooking/making food, is a requirement.

i'm looking forward to some of your writing...

Again, thanks for reading and your comments.

We all have those "meh" days. My mom used to call it the blahs. I've had a few of those recently too. I think it's this fickle weather. I'm not used to so many cloudy days . All we can do is what we can, when we can, and as best we can. You can always hit me up for a chat if you're in the mood to be entertained lol.

Hugs, my friend.

Lol...i guess i have been a bit quiet lately. Today is sunny and the trees are starting to get green. Soon i'll be wishing for winter cuz its so hot and promising that i will not complain about the cold. LOL.  Yeah all we can do is the best we can.

Have a good one and thanks for reading and your comments.  :)

I may be inspired by this to write again. I have been so full of inertia lately, alone with thoughts that fail to make their way to a page. Thank you.

i hope you will write again soon...it's frustrating when the words won't come. Something most of us go through. i watched something about writer's block from Stephen King, who has no silly answers like 'oh my muse is missing' etc. He said he just writes 2k words every day. I don't think he meant that they were necessarily for a story or a current story. That's an interesting exercise.  I try that sometimes and weird things can happen.  I like to begin with a sentence, or idea.  I'll give you one...What would happen if you woke up and found a flamingo on your lawn?  So, write what would happen.  You don't have to share, just have some fun.

Thanks for reading this and your comments. I look forward to your next poem and story.

A wonderful piece. I know you've been doing some writing and the knitting well...I think you're tired of what you're making atm.  Yet, you've been restless, maybe spring and working on the garden will help. I was impressed with the plumbing job you did. I'm impressed with this poem as well. Good job. xo

i am a bit tired of it, but it's nearly finished. Then i think i will buy a yarn winder, cuz i have a lot of wool hanks that need turning into cakes and i'm not sure i have the energy (will) to do all of them by hand.   :)   Thanks for reading this and putting up with my DIY adventures. xo

i like messing around in the garden...it really was Danny's thing and well, i'm going to try to follow the plan he made before he died.

It's good to write anything every day. Practice makes perfect as they say ... and while i may not write on a current story, i do try to write something. Think of things around you... write about the apple tree in your neighbour's yard or how a train whistle makes you feel. Just write and sometimes either now or even later your unconscious brain will have a story for you.  That's how i wrote After the Past and The Searcher ... each was just a page then a few years later when i went back through my notes, the story was in my head. Just write.   And enjoy your garden too... xo
