tim's Bits and Pieces - 29. An Unkindness of Ravens

A depressive cycle? yes ... but nothing to worry about.

Oh, dear friend, I haven’t missed you
in fact I thought you gone; more fool me
but here you are on my doorstep this morning
hammering loudly
uncaring and thoughtless
with your gaping toothless grin
you wait for me to step out into the day
smiling and saying let us share some time
yet I know you and the dagger you hide behind your back
overhead the sky is filled with an unkindness of ravens
I see all through my window and my heart pounds in me
I know I cannot take a step forward, for to do so would end me
so I turn back, needing safety this day.
the world is too colourless to face.

I am aware of what is happening to me. It's been coming for a few days now. i don't want to be 'cheered' up, i will simply be as i am. Don't worry, those that do. For this will pass, it is what it is ... but it is not necessarily bad, simply misunderstood?

This is full of strong images difficult to forget

Let me send you this:

White wispy clouds are drifting high

The first blue sky for days

This morning the rain stopped and the air is fresh and crisp

Birdsong from the trees on the river banks

The first promise of spring in the clear light

may be gone with the dusk in an hour's time

No matter. Its promise is enough for now.

thank you for this ... it's wonderful xoxo

I think all of us who suffer from or have suffered from depression can closely relate to this poem. "An unkindness of ravens" is a striking way to give form to the wordless feeling.... Hope you are putting those feeling aside soon, or at least by the time you see this :)

As always, thank you for sharing your gift with us.

they are going AC .. each day gets me further out of the mire... xoxo

You put into beautiful words exactly how I feel sometimes. Those are the days when I get up to start my day and then my mood changes, "so I turn back, needing safety this day".  This was me last week. And then it passed and I was back to my 'normal' sunny self. 🙂 Thank you for expressing this feeling so well for me.

i'm glad this gave voice to those feelings. and i am so glad your inner sunshine has returned to you .. thank you xoox
