tim's Bits and Pieces - 22. Seeking Shadows

In the halls of my memory

Are fleeting glimpses of you

Soft shadows in uneven corners

Cast in permanence on the floor

The shape on the landing’s a wish

For you are a specter—a dream

Opaque for an instant, then I reach out

You pass through my fingers like mist

I wander alone seeking shadows

Memories, gone before I reach them

I mourn the places I cannot go

Doomed to walk in your footsteps

Thank you for reading.

This poem also strikes me as a poem about memory and presence. You write about a truth I surely feel - that we pursue a presence in memory that remains tantalizingly just beyond reach. Beautifully done.

tim, this is a thought-provoking poem. The use of the words to paint a visual of a person, walking in a dark maze of their own mind, is stunning. The fleeting scraps of memory of departed friends, loved ones, ex-partners, or even those that weren't so good to us, sent chills down my spine. For me, it reminds me of my first boyfriend and true love.

thanks A ... i think we, each of us, have many specters wandering. I appreciate your wonderful comments xoxo
