tim's Bits and Pieces - 8. Under Glass and An Act of Self

two poems ...

Under Glass

Why do you hold me down? Stare

Like i am microscopic? Pinned.

A creature of interest. Of wonder.

Yet you turn your back

Withholding food

Life … words

Leaving me to wonder what

i’ve done

Am

i not worth the effort any longer?

An Act of Self

To write you must be alone. Poetry is an act

of self.

You must step outside life’s stream. SEE.

observe, watch

….. it flow by …..

While wishing you were part

but

you never are

You cannot be and call yourself poet

___

thanks for reading

An Act of Self resonates with me for its truth. A poet is separated from what is observed, even when one is in an intensely felt moment.

Under Glass struck me hard, for this speaks to the crushing isolation of the observed, not the observer.

I admire these poems, tim. They’re clear and stark and make me chew over their lines carefully.

thank you Parker xo.

"Under Glass" makes me sad. "An Act of Self" makes me reflect. 🧐 This seems like a deep poem, and I will have to come back several times to assimilate its meaning. Thanks for sharing your gift with us, and for posting these. hugs

hugs AC!  Under Glass is just thoughts and observation... xo ... it was good to write like this again xoxo

Under Glass----having just come through my annual review, and having the new division president and the CEO at the office i understand the feeling of the butterfly on the cork board!  that's a wonderful analogy

An Act of Self----we've talked before about your process in writing your poems, and i can understand your feeling of watching things flow past

thank you for sharing these, your work never disappoints

i'm happy to say, the first has nothing at all to do with BDSM. Couples who live that lifestyle are very loving, honest and close. They rarely argue, and it's not because i have no voice ... i do.  It was actually just a short sentence someone said to me. And then i'm afraid my imagination kicked in as i thought about being alone and watched. No more than that.

I meant what I said: assumed, I have been learning since...

Under Glass was sad, and made me feel like a lab rat in isolation in some grand experiment. Only to be forgotten by the researcher.

An Act of Self reminds me of the writer's perspective. A bit different from a poets, in some ways, where I look at the world I'm creating instead of the real world. I'm seeing it's beauties, and it's flaws. The rich history of the world I'm creating, and there is always a little bit of myself put in there from the experiences I incorporate into the story itself. After making this grand world, I find myself wanting to be more in it, than in the real world at times.

Great comments ... that's exactly the feeling i was going for with Under Glass.

Yes, your view is different for poets who mostly use poetry to explain life and relationships, but i understand what you are saying.

Thanks for reading, A.. Much appreciated. xo
