tim's Bits and Pieces - 39. Death's Door

Death comes to us all. With luck not before our time, with luck we go easy and surrounded by those who love us.

We, each of us, forget how finite life is

Nature does not nurture,

Does not ask us how we feel

Sending her minion, Death, with no warning

And in the night, families call and keen

Radio waves carry the sound of our tears

Even in our pain, some things will not be forgot;

Who you love, still makes you a pariah

Each lost soul we keep close in our hearts

Mother gives us Time, to help us heal

One by one, we lose those we love

Until it’s us, standing at Death’s door.

But while we wait for our final day

Reach out and tell those who you adore

What they mean and how you truly feel

For that is when we know, life and love, is real.

Some recent events stirred me up. Thank you for reading.

This is a fantastic poem my Brother. Took me a few times of reading it to see the bigger picture of it. The poem itself is a journey, one that is very familiar to us in the GLBT community, and perhaps we've all have felt.

Your last stanza is the takeaway for me. Making sure people you care about know you love them. Even if they are thousands of miles away, and you have no chance of ever meeting in person.

Again, this is fantastic, tim, and love ya lots my Brother.

Thank you, A.  Yes, as you say all too familiar to many of us. One day, and i truly think it will come, i hope we are no longer shunned, hurt, abused. i hope we will simply be, just as everyone else is.

In the meantime, yes love each other. i love you too, A.  xoxo

I have mentioned this on the site before, but at the risk of repeating myself, I'll tell you this poem reminds me of something quite personal. When my mom passed away a few years ago, her everyday items found their way to me, including her pocketbook. Not right away, but eventually I had to sort things out. In the back was a color photo of her mom and dad.

It touched me to find that, and remember my mom saying she still dreamed of them, even though they cut her off completely when she became pregnant with me. A part of me knows a wonderful poem like this speaks for my mom. It says to me what she might have wanted to say to her mother.

Thank you for this. This connection is true poetry, and why it's mankind's greatest time machine.

Thank you, AC ... your comments touch me very deeply.
