Into the fields of Summer - 19. Winds of Change 4

Sunlight was peering through my window as I woke Sunday morning.
Laying on my bed I realized I wasn’t alone, I felt a warm body snuggled behind me and arms hugging me. I felt safe and comfortable with my boyfriend’s touch.

“Are you awake?” Victor whispered.

“Mmm... yeah a bit” I whispered.

“Feeling any better?”

“Yeah, just a bit sore but no more pain”

“Okay... your dad and I are worried sick, Leo also, he almost cried himself crazy earlier this morning when your dad gave him the news”

“Oh... I should have seen that, he rarely cries” I remarked with a slight laugh.

“I’ll go get your dad”

“No... not yet... hug me more just for a bit longer” I said.

“Anything baby.” Victor remarked.

“Mmm... I like this. I like your hugs” I said.

Victor snuggled closer to me and hugged me even tighter.

“I can’t imagine losing you Chris, I’ll tear anyone that lays a finger on you” he said with determination and more strength in his voice.

“You won’t lose me” I reassured him. As I held his hands tighter.

There was a soft knock on my door. It opened it bit and I heard dad’s voice “Is he awake?”

“Yeah, just woke up” Victor answered.

Dad went over to the other side of the bed and sat in front of me. His hands caressing my face. His eyes moistened with tears he’s trying to hold back. “I’m so sorry son, I should have done better” he said.

“Dad... don’t blame yourself, we did our best and it was enough” I said trying to tell him that I blamed no one for the hurt I’ve been through, for goodness sake if it weren’t for the both of them I would have surely been dead by now.

“But... but... we could have lo...”

I cut him off. “No... and you didn’t” I said firmly this time.

Dad kissed me on the forehead and said. “Rest a bit more okay?, lunch will be ready in 45 minutes” he forced a smile on us as he walked out of the room.

“He blames himself” Victor said.

“He shouldn’t, no one’s to blame”

“I blame myself...” Victor said with clear pain in his voice.

“Don’t... just don’t... if it weren’t for you and dad, it would have been much worse, no one’s blaming anyone”

Victor held me tighter. A we snuggled a bit more.

A few minutes later I heard footsteps on running up the stairs. A signature sound I’ve grown accustomed to.

The door swung open and Leo leapt to the other side of the bed and hug me too. “Don’t you ever scare the shit out of me ever again again!” He said, his voice clearly holding back more emotions. A tear escaped his from his right eye and he sniffled a bit.

He smiled at me and I smiled back at him. “Don’t worry bro, I’m feeling better. I remember my boyfriend over here feeding me some of his blood. Hehe”

“Ewww” Leo said with feigned disgust in his face.

“Tasted Kinda sweet actually”

“Okay, that’s too much lover boy I think you hit your head or something, I didn’t need to know that” Leo laughed a bit as he checked my body all over for bruises and stuff.

Leo ate lunch with the three of us and the three guys each warily looked at me every now and then, looking for any signs of discomfort on my part.

“Guys... stop it.”

“What?” Leo asked.

“Ugh. You’re all doting all over me, I’m fine.” I said looking at the three of them, as I finished chewing some chicken.

“Fine... fine.. just tell us if you feel anything okay?” Leo said.

“Yeah... whatever”

“What’ll happen to those fuckers that attacked you guys anyway?” Leo asked.

“They’re in secure detention now, they’ll be punished soon enough” Dad said with venom in his voice. “We’ll have to look into if they’ve attacked anyone in the area as well, it’s rather uncommon for that many newborn vampires to be together and to be so upfront about it, for rogue vampires it’s usually dark alleys and rather done alone, at most in pairs”

“I’ll make sure they all face true death” Victor remarked “They’ve hurt us, they’ve endangered Chris, and they’ve so many statutes of the Accord, they put the entire Vampire community at risk!”

“True what?” I asked.

“True Death, a vampire’s death”

“Make sure of that Victor, no one hurts my best friend” Leo said also rather in a tone of anger.

“Hmm... anyway dad, what device did you use last night, that blue light thingy?” I asked, remembering the device dad used to hurt the vampires.

“It was a UV gun. It emits high intensity UV light. You know young vampires are susceptible to UV right? Their skin burning off goes to show they were quite young. If used on Victor, he’ll most likely feel nothing at all” Dad remarked.

“Those things mainly hurt Vampires who are into their change for less than 10 years” Victor remarked. “Younger vampires are more dangerous too as they’re more impulsive and have less control over their blood lust”

“I’ll make sure you and Leo have one of those” Dad said.

“Yeah I agree, at least you both will be able to fight off younger vampires if needed.” Victor said.

The afternoon was mainly quiet. We spent it in the living room with the four of us enjoying each other’s company over some movies.

Leo went back to his house at 7 for dinner with his parents, he gave me a strong hug as he left. Victor ate dinner with us and he spent the night with me as well. I slept comfortably as my boyfriend hugged me tightly, his warmth and his scent lulling me to sleep.
