Into the fields of Summer - 17. Winds of Change 2

Chapter 17 - Winds of Change

I woke feeling warm and tingly all over, the pendant on my neck was obviously warm, sending me energy. I felt calm yet fully aware that something significant happened, what it actually is or was I’m not sure of, but I felt something change and shifted in that dream.

The morning flew by as dad and I discussed more prep work for my matriculation exams. I was assigned several more worksheets for physics and trigonometry as well.

I had lunch with Victor at his house as dad had some meetings at the college. Over lunch Victor and I talked about the book that I found.

“So any news on the book?” I asked Victor as I ate my soup.

“Well... I’ve reached out to Patrick and Lucy to discreetly gather more information about it” He sighed. “I’ve also reached out to my sire, he was surprised about us having possession of the book but he said that we should keep it as a secret for now” Victor gave me a slightly worried look.

I just had to ask him. “What’s so worrisome about these books anyway?, Like very few can read them right?”

“Yeah... but in the wrong hands...” he looked at me as if trying to reinforce a hidden meaning. “In the wrong hands... the knowledge it contains can do a lot of damage, these books are indestructible, all copies we have are hidden by the Vampire High Council in a vault somewhere in Europe, and the werewolves have several copies as well... stashed in some area we don’t know”

“Whose wrong hands are we talking about here Victor?” I asked. “I thought we were mostly at peace”

“Yeah... mostly... but” Victor sighed.

“But what Victor?” His demeanor was starting to worry me as well. It was as if there was a larger threat out there that he hasn’t discussed with me yet.

“There are threats... you know about the vampire and werewolf and human syndicates right? Well it’s not just them. The Accords and Treaties were approved by the Vampire High Council and Werewolf Crescent Council as you may know right?”

“Uh huh, you’ve mentioned it before”

“Well. To put it bluntly not everyone in those councils agreed with the terms, The Vampire High Council voted 12-3 in favor of the Accord, the Werewolf Crescent Council voted 18-2 in favor.”

“So there’s dissent then?” I asked.

“Yes, and those that dissented didn’t take losing the votes lightly.” Victor stated. “There was an open rebellion amongst the Werewolves headed by the 2 dissenters, They called their group the Black Claws, they had massive support in Eastern Europe in the early 2000s among several dozen packs there. But their rebellion was quashed when the group’s leaders and senior pack alphas were killed in 2004 by a joint human and werewolf operation.”

“How about the Vampire dissent?” I asked.

“Well... it’s more complicated than that, the 3 Vampire Councilors that dissented have disappeared, but we do know they’ve gathered several supporters to their cause, they call themselves the Blood Army, they’ve done some trouble every now and then, attacking small human police stations or small places of gathering of the vampire population, we’ve also confirmed that they’re involved in several mass kidnappings across the world. And we’re worried that they’re creating a Vampire Army. But we really haven’t heard from them for awhile and that’s what worries us the most.” Victor said with clear worry in his tone.

“How is this related to the books?”

“The three Council members that dissented are older, some of them may know how to decipher the knowledge within the books.”

“Oh shit. That’s scary” I said.

“Yes , it is.” Victor calmly replied.

Throughout lunch Victor and I talked about how he’ll further try to uncover information about the books. He also assured me that even though the threat from the Blood Army is there that the actual threat is low at this point as no movement from the Blood Army has been observed.

Victor and I snuggled with each other on his couch throughout the afternoon, breaking into spontaneous make out sessions every now and then. His kisses and touch give me so much warmth and pleasure, the way he plays with my face, hair, and ears we make out leave me moaning and whimpering.

Soccer practice was tiring yet uneventful as usual. Coach had introduced a more individualized approach in training us, focusing on improving each players strengths and becoming more aware of each’s weaknesses.

Nighttime was uneventful as well.
But my dream that Tuesday night certainly wasn’t.

I was brought back to the 12th floor of the tower. I was overlooking the beautiful old town again, locals living their lives as usual. Before someone saw me again, I’ve found myself walking over the various columns in the tower, taking in the ornate designs of trees and flowers etched into the stone columns. The details of each stone carving were highly detailed, leaves had depth, flowers and stems had curves and lines that gave the illusion that the carvings were actual plants turned to stone. I carefully touched the carvings, they felt smooth and warm to the touch.
My pendant became warm again as I went from one column to another, and as usual, before I was able to take more information in, I started fading out again.

The rest of the week flew by, and before I knew it was already game day. Saturday morning Victor was driving dad and I to Lynchburg for an out of town game. The drive only took as more than an hour and the trip was filled with usual exchanges of jokes and snickers. All the laughing we had in the car certainly calmed my nerves down.

We arrived at the field just before 9am and several of my teammates were already in our assigned area. Leo texted me that he was a few miles away and coach also notified us that the rest of the group in the van will be with us in 10 minutes.

The game started a little bit late at 10:15 and the stands were more than half full again. We were up against the Lynchburg Green Rhinos and they really did live up to their names. Most of their players were built heavy and strong, more muscular than your average soccer player.

Although our opponents were as expected, more slow than us, their defense was rock solid. Enrique and I could barely find any opening. Any advances we made were almost immediately pushed back. By the half time no team still made a goal.

During half time coach noted of the opposing team’s strategy as well. And told us to basically try to our endure the other team and tire them out. Kyle and Leo kept up with me and Enrique in our renewed offensive strategy. By the 60th minute the other team still made no effort in trying to score a goal against us, it seems that they were basically drawing us out and tiring us out as well.

We were certainly running out of time, by the 70th minute I can already see the fatigue settle in our team. We were panting and sweating like crazy. While the other team stood their ground. Later on with 10 minutes left, the other team went all out in their offense, they were more aggressive and our defense that became lax started to break down, our opponents nearly scored against us several times but they missed and on their third attempt the ball was caught by our rookie goal keeper, Keith, much to the relief of the entire team. The whistle was blown by the 90th minute and the game ended with a draw. We didn’t know how to feel about our winning streak being broken but we also felt relief that we didn’t end up losing the game. Our 3-1-0 record at this point puts us third in the league rankings and we’ll just have to work harder next time so we can at least maintain our ranking.

The shower at the changing rooms were more than welcome. My muscles were sore all over. Beside me I can hear Leo huff and grunt in pain every now and then, all of us were pretty drained.

We three had lunch with Leo and his parents at a local fast food and the food though mainly unhealthy was a welcome treat. Leo and I ate so much that everyone else basically laughed out how hungry we both were.

Leo and his parents left for Greensburg after lunch, while Victor, dad, and I decided to walk around the city and visit some nearby attractions. Though I had to admit that I still felt sore all over.

It was almost six pm and we three have already visited several landmarks. We were walking over to the parking lot where Victor parked his car earlier. To get to the parking space we had to walk through a nearly empty park, lighting was kind of poor in the area and the other visitors in the park were more than a hundred feet away, a bunch of skaters playing around. We could barely hear them laugh as they horsed around and they were hidden behind several shrubs and trees that lined the pavement.

As we walked, Victor looked back at dad and myself, he had an uneasy look and said quietly “We’re being followed”

I think it is time for Chris to tell Victor and maybe his dad about the dreams.  The dreams are becoming more real and connected to reality. I remembered reading this.  I think after what we have learned, Chris is an elf.  The elves may have returned, or were hiding in plain sight by marrying into the human population.

Quote

“Yeah, that’s why he smelled familiar, the boy of lavender and rose fragrance, his smell lingered in the living room for hours!, what’s with him? He doesn’t smell like an ordinary human, he smells special, he smells pure... even.”

The merchant at the state fair called Chris "my lord" and said he would see him again.  The merchant had to be one of the people to whom Chris is the prince.

I am still not sure how Leo is fitting in this story.  Victor mentioned
