Into the fields of Summer - 47. Show of Strength 1

That night, I was back again in the tower, I find myself alone in the 12th floor of the tower, the sweeping views of Verhesa still mesmerizing me. “It’s beautiful” I mutter to myself. I go in closer to the windows and I try to take a closer look of the town below. The architecture and the overall look of the city certainly looked old european, it had that vibe, like that of Prague from what you see in the postcards. However upon closer inspection, I can see the people were very much into tech as well, there were streetlights, which were cleverly well designed into the overall aesthetic of the city, the people as well had phones but no cars though, only bicycles, electric scooters and such, Hmm... I had to ask Patri about that.

The people were very mostly wearing very chic designs of clothing, non ostentatious clothing, something that harkened back to the 1950s. Most people were also wearing muted/toned down colors, mostly in pastel shade. How preppy I thought. The first time
I saw the people down in Verhesa weeks ago, I just noted they ‘didn’t look medieval’ now upon a serious closer look, I think they’ve figured out a wicked minimalist and stylish fashion sense, it wasn’t 2010s or anything they were a classy bunch.

I then thought of Patri, he must be anxious to know how the events of the day transpired. I had to remember how to call upon my grandfather, it’s getting easier every time but the thought of being able to do such a thing still weirds me out.

The light started to bend and in a few seconds my grandfather was in front of me. He had a huge smile as he greeted me. “I assume everything went well?” He said as he hugged me.

“Yeah, better than expected” I hugged him back. “Dad and Victor took it rather well, they were surprised of course, hehe, who wouldn’t, but they didn’t go nuts over it” I said then paused,
“So what now?” I said as I looked up at my Patri.

“Now... we wait for your arrival here, after Christmas right?” Patri expectantly answered.

“Yeah... I suppose so” I said rather timidly.

“Don’t worry Chris, we’ll just have a banquet to welcome you, I would have wanted a parade for you in the Royal Avenue but I know that would just make you even more nervous” he said as he smiled.

“Yeah... that would definitely make me nervous” I chuckled a bit at that thought, a parade?! For me?! No thanks.

“Your grandmother and both your uncles are very excited to see you”

“Well... I hope I don’t disappoint them”

“You wouldn’t, not in a million years”

I then spent the next hour or so talking to Patri about how my day with Yal and Hashana went, we also talked about a few more details about my trip to the Elven realm.

The following morning, I walked into the kitchen, Hashana and dad were cooking breakfast.

“Did I wake up late?” I asked.

“Mornin’ your highness” Hashana said.

“Stop it with that, just Chris would do just fine” I insisted.

“If you wish so” she smiled back at me, “though good luck insisting on that when you’re at the palace” she smiled back at me.

Dad then just looked at me over and said “can’t have our prince starve himself now can we?” He laughed a little at that.

I then looked at my wristwatch to check if it was working “you’re both early” I insisted.

“So...?” Dad replied.

“Ugh. Whatever, if you guys want to cook, then be my guest” I left the both of them laughing while i went to the living room to find Yal who was similarly exiled from the kitchen.

“What are they cooking back there?” I asked.

“I seriously don’t have a clue” Yal replied. “Must be something special though, my sister rarely goes into the kitchen herself” he shrugged then giggled in disbelief of her sister cooking.

“Should I be worried?”

“Oh don’t be, she’s actually a great cook, just lazy when it comes to it but her flavor profile is one of the best in Salisha.”

“Salisha?”

“Oh... sorry, I always forget, uhm, it’s the name of our home town, it’s actually on the southern part of the realm, maybe 300 or so kilometers (186 miles) southwest of the Capital.

As Hashana and Dad spent the next 30 minutes cooking, I learned more about Yal’s hometown, Salisha apparently is an agricultural town, producing most of the fruits and vegetables for the southwestern region of the realm.

“So how big is the Elven realm anyway?” I asked.

“Well... not that big, it’s actually just 1800 kilometers (1118miles) across, 900 kilometers each way from the Capital. More or less, it’s roughly 2,544,000 square kilometers in size (982,240 square miles)” Yal then looked up as if trying to remember something, then he continued “more or less slightly smaller than either Argentina or Kazakhstan or almost equal to if you add both Alaska and Texas.”

“Oh... you do know our geography” I mused at him.

“That’s what being a scholar is about” he grinned then paused and continued “among other things of course, hehe”

“So... it’s not small, but it isn’t that big either, that’s a fraction of what the United States’ size ”
I commented.

“Yeah, I suppose so, but it’s big enough for all of us Elves, of course we’d love for it to be bigger, but the magic wasn’t strong enough then”

“Magic?”

“Yeah... the realm was created by the Elven High Circle, the spell was completed in 1782, that was when the creation of our world was completed”

“Must be a darn powerful spell then” the thought of a realm creating spell surely was something I had difficulty wrapping my head around.

“Oh... it certainly was, I was there when they completed it, the energy in that room was incredible, when King ZoHal said the last few words, I was brought to tears”

“King ZoHal?”

“Yeah, He was already king then and as King, he’s the leader of the High Circle, all 12 members to be exact”

Then at that point I remember the painting I saw, of people in a circle casting some sort of magic, yeah, that was the moment the Elven realm was made.

“Seriously, that must have been intense magic”

“Yes, it sure was, three or four members of the High Circle at a time took turns in completing the spell, they started it in 1680, if I remember it correctly.”

I had to jerk back a bit “102 years for a spell?!”

“Yes, they were creating another realm, 102 years was already in the best case scenario, at one point, the King confided in me that it could have taken then 500 years or so”

“Wow...”

“Yeah, it’s impressive isn’t it?” Yal said.

But then curiosity got the better of me “so what’s outside the realm? You said it was 1800 kilometers across, so I’m assuming it’s circular in shape?”

“It is indeed circular, and about what’s outside the realm, there’s nothing, the borders of the realm is of an impenetrable veil of energy”

“Excuse me? What do you mean by nothing?, you can’t just fall off the edge right? Don’t tell me that Elves are flat earthers, hehe, and what about the sun? The moon? Did the spell create a version of those as well?”

“Haha, no silly, we aren’t flat earthers, it’s just that there’s simply nothing beyond the borders of the realm, as far as I know, the spell used to create the realm worked as if it was expanding from the point of spell origin, as the circle expanded further from the point, the more features had to be created, from the rocks, trees, geographic features, and everything in between, despite the power of all the members of the Elven High Circle, their overall magical energy could only push the limits of the real to 900 kilometers from the point of origin” Yal paused for a bit as if to gather his thoughts then he continued “despite being an artificial world, it’s as real as this, and it’s features just as varied, from tall snow capped mountains to forests and lakes, and rivers” he then paused again, “but we don’t have deserts or tropical forests though, the climate we have is mainly temperate, Hmm, I’d say the overall vibe of the realm is mainly Central European, and now I’m just assuming, but most likely because most elves lived in Europe then” after a brief pause he continued, “as for the sun and moon, well our day and night sky copy from that of earth, our sun and moon are mere projections of what the earth sees, so whatever we see in the sky is exactly the same as if it were viewed by someone at a certain point here on earth”

“Woah... that amazing... but also very confusing” my forehead was a little bit scrunched up at that point.

“It indeed is” Yal was proud of his race and he should be. The thought of being able to create your own realm is certainly hard to wrap your head around. “However when you visit the realm, you’ll learn more about it, I’m assuming that as a prince, The King will hire a personal tutor for you”

“So we have to open a portal to get to the realm?” I asked.

“Yes... we have, it takes the magic of at least two powerful elves to open a hole in the veil that surrounds our realm”

“Hmm... that’s interesting, I don’t get the exact science of it” I replied.

“Ohh... it’s hard to wrap your head around it indeed, however our best minds, simply just put our realm as some sort of extra dimensional reality, with the veil serving as the dimensional gap between our world and yours, and instead of energy like raw energy being used to create connection between the two dimensions, apparently magic, or whatever you call our abilities are, is the actual type of energy that can create a temporary tear in the veil, most likely because it’s magic that created our world anyway”
Yal explained.

Later over breakfast, Yal and I were surprised to what was on offer. I expected it to be exquisite but what we had were just pancakes, bacon, and some bread. However when i took my first bite, I was taken into a different world, the flavors were bursting in my mouth! “What is in this?!” I shouted in surprise.

“Oh... nothing” Hashana shared a knowing smile with dad.

“Come on you guys, tell me!, this pancake is amazing... and oh my, what did you put in this bread?”

Yal then looked at me and said “seems like my sister has smuggled in some Elven spices into your kitchen” he smiled a bit with that.

“Woah... are all elven food supposed to be this good?” I asked Yal.

“I’m pretty sure my sister snuck some spices from the Royal palace’s kitchen, this isn’t ordinary food, it’s for royalty like you”

“Oh... damn, I can get used to this” I muttered.

“Don’t get cocky now, son” dad snickered as he took a mouthful of bacon into his mouth, I can basically see him squirm in delight as well.

“This is really delicious guys”

“Thanks, your dad now knows how to mix the spices, so be nice to him” Hashana said, proud of her work. Then she added “this is for you and my brother’s training session today as well, if I’m right, you have a match with this vampire called Patrick right?”

“Ohh yeah, shoot, I almost forgot about that” I said dreading over my match with Patrick, they’ve told me he had special abilities as well, but I’m not sure what it is, Ugh, I had to be ready for whatever he throws at me.

At around 10am, the four of us left for Victor’s place. The drive was rather quick and most of the time we spent talking about the spices Hashana and dad used in breakfast.
Damn I really loved those spices.

Dad parked our car in Victor’s garage, we were already given access to it a few weeks ago. Yal was more than impressed with Victor’s car collection.

“Nice cars, too bad they’re fossil fuel driven” Yal commented.

“Well... most cars in this world still are” Hashana added.

“Aren’t cars banned in your realm?, I saw Verhesa again last night and I didn’t see any cars”

Yal took note that I went to the tower again last night and just added “Verhesa is a pedestrian town, it’s fairly small as well, no need for cars there, however in our cities and larger towns, there are cars but we use hydrogen as fuel”

“You’ve figured out hydrogen fuel cells already?!” Dad said.

“Well... we haven’t perfected the tech, and we rather actually still import tons of spare parts from human suppliers but with the right parts and modifications we’ve somehow made it work for us” Yal proudly said.

“It seems like you aren’t the technologically backward and all roses and trees type of people I thought you guys were” I honestly said.

“Well... of course we love nature, but we have to improve our quality of lives as well, as long as we minimize any environmental damage, we’ll gladly embrace the technology” Hashana added.

“We’ll have to see that for ourselves” dad noted.

“Soon...” Yal answered.

We then opened the side door to the living space inside the house and we were welcomed by Mark who was vacuuming. “Hi Mr. Rogers... Hi Chris!... uh...”He greeted then he trailed off as he noticed the two people behind us.

“Oh sorry, this is Yal and his sister, Hashana, both friends of Victor and mine” I said. “This is Mark, the housekeeper of this wonderful place”

“Nice to meet you both” Mark said as they three exchanged pleasantries.

“Right on time” came a voice from the corridor, it was my loving boyfriend, he greeted me with a chaste peck on the lips then he escorted us four to the training level.

Yal and Hashana were both obviously shocked with how large the place actually was.

“Didn’t expect to see a multilevel basement with elevators when you came in did yah?” I teased them both.

“Certainly not” Hashana muttered.

As the elevator door opened into the basement, Yal and Hashana’s shock did not disappear. Yal whistled with what he saw.

We were then moments later greeted by a shrieking Lucy, who warmly and tightly hugged me. “I missed you!” She cried out then she saw our extra visitors, we then introduced Yal and Hashana to the Lucy, Patrick, Raymond, Erica, and Henry who were all in the training room as well.

Patrick and Henry both scrunched up their noses as they went closer to us, “do you smell that?” Patrick asked Henry.

“Yeah, it’s as if there are more of Chris in the room, huh, weird” then he looked at Yal and Hashana and then it dawned on him “Chris, you share the same perfume with these two?”

“Uhhh...” I didn’t know how to approach this issue, then Victor saved me.

Victor said “let’s talk about perfumery later, we have practice to do” sigh.

Patrick then pulled Victor to his side, I had to strain but my hearing had also substantially improved the past few days.

“Are we training in front of these humans?” Patrick said to Victor.

“Don’t worry, they know, they are new additions to Chris’ entourage, hehe, it’s a long story but don’t worry about them”

Hmm, seems like with glamour magic Yal and Hashana has used to hide their pointy ears making them appear human, no one else has noticed that they aren’t human, except for the floral scent that seemed to be something their magic couldn’t hide.

“Are you sure?” Patrick asked Victor.

“Sure, and you might actually be surprised by what you see later on, I’m sparring with that Italian looking guy over there, don’t be fooled, I have a feeling he can actually throw a good punch or two” Victor said winking at Patrick.

Victor then called for the rest of his family, he pulled them all aside, explaining the situation to the rest. All of them had a confused look on their faces, as this was all just so sudden, but none questioned Victor’s explanations, our training will continue as planned.

First was my match with Patrick, I had to internally groan as I had a closer look at him, my nordic god of a sparring mate was wearing very short shorts and a tight fitting shirt that highlighted his trim body and oh god, his pecs! I had to stop myself from openly drooling. Victor noticed me and gave me an evil eye, I just had to blush and look away from him.

Okay, I breathed in deep and calmed down my nerves. I just had to hold out in this fight and not leave badly beaten. Henry served as our referee while the rest were on the sidelines to observe, it was also dad’s first time to see me in action.

Henry gave out the signal and Patrick didn’t waste anytime, he was fast but not as fast as Raymond, I easily blocked his punches and kicks, I was even able to land a few blows myself, I wasn’t strong enough to seriously hurt him but the idea of him not being able to dodge all of my attacks must have caught him by surprise.

Patrick then leapt several feet away from me, he caught his breath and took on another stance. He then said “fuck... you’re indeed fast”

Henry then added “told yah he’s fast, now beat his sorry ass for my sake” Henry said grinning, he was more or less sure that Patrick can handle me.

“Oh... I plan to, younger brother” Patrick said.

Patrick had this mischievous smile on his face and in almost an instant he disappeared right in front of me. He couldn’t have been that fast I thought. I tried to look around the area and he was nowhere to be found, then I heard some noise as if someone was running towards me but no one was there, shit, then a punch hit me right on the stomach, “ouch! That fucking hurt” I said loudly. I then looked around again and there still was no one near me, just the audience but no Patrick in sight, then I realized it, fucking invisibility! That’s his skill!
I looked at Victor and gave him a look and said “seriously?!”

Victor chuckled a bit and Henry and Raymond just high fived each other. “Let’s see him get away with this now” Raymond said to Henry.

Shit. I’ve gotten myself in a serious pickle right now. Think Chris, think.

Then I sensed some movement again and then someone swept me off my feet and I fell. “Shit” I muttered.

I was getting getting frustrated at this point, how do I fight someone invisible, my hearing wasn’t that good yet to exactly pin point his location, I had a general sense of his direction but you can’t really hear the precise location of a swinging arm or foot against you.

I had a few seconds to think, it was as if Patrick was toying with me, ugh, the thought of his smug smile right now made me angry but seriously turned on at the same time. Okay Chris, think!

It was a reach, but I had an idea, Yal has taught me water magic, and I cared less about outing myself as part elf at this point anyway, I knew there was water vapor in the air, I just had to figure out how to draw the water out from thin air.

I reached out my right hand in the air and I waived it as if trying to feel the water around me. It was a tall order, I knew that, but I had to try, them the water particles connected with my energy, I started to feel them around, I then reached out with my left arm as well, both arms now waving around, slowly wisps of water started to form around my arms, it was as if vines of water caught on my arm, three on each arm now, each water vine grew larger by the second.

There was an audible gasp from Lucy in the audience as they all saw what I was doing, Yal was more than shocked of what I was able to do as well, he hasn’t taught me any of this.

I then lashed out the water vines around me and instead of surrounding my arm, they were now spinning around my body, 6 snake like water rings were spinning around me, this should give enough warning should Patrick try to attack me again.

Then it happened, the second top most ring, the one on my eye level was broken, it was from a punch coming from my right side, I was able to safely dodge it. My second ring reformed itself after losing some mass from that punch.

I then inhaled deeply and drew in more water from the air, my water rings were now spinning faster around me and they’ve grown as well and now instead of being just a few inches from my body, I’ve increased their distance from me to almost 3 feet now, this should give me more reaction time should Patrick try to attack again.

Patrick was clearly taking his time, I bet I’ve wiped that smug smile from his face now.

“You should have ended it sooner” I teased Patrick, “now you have to deal with this” I remarked, to be honest, yeah, I was getting cocky at that point, hehe.

I now didn’t need my arms to manipulate the rings, my energy was keeping them in place now, I then held up both my hands in front of me as on a clawing position, with my hands facing up, within seconds I was able to form balls of water on each hand, thinking that water balls wouldn’t really hurt, I thought of freezing them, but I didn’t know where to start that process, I then remembered that water molecules in ice had a more dense molecular arrangement that water in liquid form, so I thought of crushing the molecules closer together, the water ball became smaller, it wasn’t ice just yet but it certainly felt more sturdy should i throw it.

Yal had to whistle with my display of power.

At the back I could hear dad comment “what the hell”

Victor then added “I never knew he could do that”

Yal then said “I think none of us did”

“Ohh... Patrick... where are you?” I called out for him.

Then on my right side I heard something break, Patrick was either punching or kicking hard on the floor, it was breaking, Patrick has ripped through the floor matting and broke into the concrete floor, and Victor just said “what the hell Patrick?!”

Patrick just answered “you didn’t tell me your boyfriend had whatever magic you call this, I had to think of something” he was frustrated and clearly taken aback and was doing his best to keep himself calm.

Then several pieces of broken cement floated in the air, Patrick was picking up the now stone like concrete and shit, he started throwing them at me, and he threw them fast!

I got his three times, and shit did they hurt, good thing 2 of the three stones were caught by my water rings so their impact did not hurt as bad as the one that got through the rings.

I got angry, I threw a ball of water towards the direction of Patrick but I missed, the water ball just broke as it hit the wall.

I then thought of something, I dropped 2 of my rings and they both broke up in the floor, now the floor was wet, as the water spread over the floor, I then transferred my energy to the water below and it froze. I then heard a loud thump as Patrick slipped, “there you are”
I then hurled my last water ball towards him and it broke right on his torso.

“Ouch!... fucking hell” he grunted.

I then turned my water rings into one large water spear and I threw it towards Patrick,I stopped it several inches from where he was. Patrick’s invisibility was now gone and he resigned “fuck, okay, I admit it, you win”

I then broke off the water spear and it burst into a loud splash as it fell to the floor.

I then helped Patrick up and we both shook hands. Patrick then looked at Henry “Of course he beat you, this guy is unstoppable, you have to teach me how to do that” he smirked back at me then added “that was amazing, and what was that all about?! Shit!”

Erica then added “how was that even possible?”

Raymond then chimed in and asked Victor “is there something you guys want to tell us?”

Henry gave us a knowing look, he knew something was up, he then looked at me and then Victor and said “Please do tell, I’m all ears” he smiled.
