tim's Bits and Pieces - 9. Light

Been working with my doctor on a different type cognitive therapy. There may be hope.

Light

 

I look at my imperfections through a glass that magnifies

Not seeing the monster I am, you view me with kinder eyes

there's a dark space deep within, where good does not reside

and evil is free to churn and twist, it will not be denied

 

I watch this vile part of me as it weaves its heinous cloth

Offensive words and feelings, cooked into a hideous broth

if I do not change I fear, my soul cannot be saved

the road to my private hell, with my mistakes, will be paved

 

One day you appear to me, like an angel from above

I don’t know how you stand me, let alone say you love

but you show me what you see, with your gentle sight

and taking my hand in yours, you drag me into the light

I've been feeling a bit less horrible, like there may be hope. Like maybe i can hush the awful voices in my head somewhat. Thanks for reading. And to you closest to me, no, do not worry, this is just a bit of purging.

This poem is fantastic. You can see the different stages, from self-doubt, in the beginning, to hope and love at the end. A lot of emotions tied up in three stanzas. Excellent job.

I loved the use of the sight sense in each stanza, ‘look ‘ and ‘watch’ in the first two are passive , then ‘see’ in the final stanza which is active , has a kinetic feel.

Telling us not to worry is like putting a steak in front of a starving dog and saying do not eat.

We will always "worry"  because we care about you and want only the best for you. As for purging? Go right ahead if that is what helps you. 

 

You have such a way with words, tim, always getting to the heart of the matter so clear that we can see it, too. 

 

PS: I like that you can see your Angel for what he is - a smart and wise man who knows what he's talking about.

This poem shines forth. A calm connectedness makes it clear that disorder and doubt must ultimately be put in their place. I think you did very well marrying the content and form of this poem together, which shows a mature approach to writing verse. It's awesome.

Thank you Reader. i appreciate your comments.  My Angel is really my shrink who said he wanted to try this. He's good that way, not wanting to rely only on drugs. But the lot of you are angels too.. i know i can turn to any of you. that means a lot xoxo

thank you, molly ... you did the perfect thing the other evening when i came to you for help. between you and AC, you stopped me for sliding too far down the hole .. i managed to hold one. xoox

this poem talks about the dark things we spoke of ... things that i need to stop.  i'm very pleased it worked well.

Okay, so I got my Angels crossed, but what I said about him holds true, I'd say. I'm glad you have a doc who you can trust is on your side. That's important.
