Into the fields of Summer - 35. Discoveries 2

I opened my eyes and I was back in the tower. I was alone, I half expected to be greeted by Yalekin and King ZoHal but this is just a dream right.

I started walking around the floor, I was half thinking of actually climbing up back to the 15th floor, the highest level I’ve been to, but thought against it.

I paced and paced around several tables and chairs, I really wished to talk to ZoHal and Yal again.

And as if right on cue, several meters in front of me, the light started to look distorted, as if it was being bent and warped or something, the air felt heavy as well. A few seconds later out of the warped space appeared ZoHal and Yal.

The King was now wearing something more ordinary, he had light green pants paired with a nicely fit light yellow sleeved and collared shirt. His shirt adorned with designs of flowers and leaves in gold. While Yal on the other hand wore White pants and light blue nicely fitted shirt. Both were wearing leather sandals.

“Oh just right on time, good thing, it wasn’t like yesterday where you pulled me out right in front of my guards, when I got back to the palace courtyard, my guards were almost panic stricken” ZoHal said with a mischievous smile.

“Good thing we’ve warned them that this would happen again your majesty” Yal remarked with his own smile.

“Hi Sir Yal, and King ZoHal” I greeted them with a small bow.

“Oh no need for formalities young one” ZoHal said as he hugged me again. He sniffed me a little and added “oh, someone’s coming of age isn’t he?” ZoHal looked at me giving me a once over form head to toe and patting my right shoulder.

“He’s certainly developing fast your highness” Yal remarked, with genuine pride and curiosity in his face. His eyes looking me over from head to toe as if inspecting me.

“What are you talking about?” I asked.

“Don’t you feel it Chris?, you’re getting stronger” The King said, “We can certainly smell it” He grinned as he patted my shoulder.

Okay, that was weird, do I have body odor or something, I thought.

“Well... in training earlier, my sparring partner and the others did note that I was stronger and faster” I shyly explained, not sure if I should tell them about vampires.

“Hmm... it must have been an easy win for you then” ZoHal mused. “With the energy I’m sensing from you, no ordinary human can beat you now.

“Uhm, actually I still lost” I muttered, trying to avoid eye contact.

ZoHal raised his right eyebrow, in slight disbelief, his arms now crossed in front of his chest, and said “really now?, and how come? That’s almost impossible”

“Uhm... uhm...” I fidgeted around, can I trust these guys with the information I’m about to tell them. Well this is a dream right? So most likely they’re only figments of my imagination. Here goes nothing... “well... I might have sparred with a vampire...” I said just above a whisper.

“A what?!” Yal exclaimed he jerked back a little as I said those words.

“Yeah... a vampire” I repeated, while avoiding eye contact shrugging my shoulders.

“Oh... I see...” ZoHal remarked not sure what he really felt about it.

“So you’re aware of supernatural creatures eh?” Yal added still surprised but he’s gotten calmer.

“Yes... well I’ve met vampires and werewolves” I replied.

“Hmmm... interesting, this is certainly a welcome yet quite unexpected development then, what a small world indeed” ZoHal said as he paced around.

“I did sense a vampire in the area when I gave him the pendant.” Yal added as he slowly brushed his left arm with his right hand.

“Well... that must have been my boyfriend... Victor”

“Boyfriend you say?” ZoHal asked.

“Yeah... we’ve been together for more than a month now... don’t worry about him though, his good” I added.

“Haha, oh young one, we know most vampires mean no harm, if you haven’t noticed yet, we’re not human” ZoHal said with a reassuring smile. He held my shoulders, lifted my chin up, and looked me right on the eye. “Being born and raised in the human world has clouded your judgement of the supernatural, you have much to learn” he teased.

“So... what are you then?” I asked.

“To put it bluntly, We are Elves, or the Elvenhasil as we formally refer to ourselves.” ZoHal explained.

Is he serious?! This has to be a joke or something. This can’t be.
“But... but ... I thought there were no more elves, Victor said you guys disappeared more than 200 years ago” I said, remembering Victor’s explanation of ‘The Vanishing’

“It’s a long story my boy, but we didn’t disappear, we mainly just hid ourselves from the rest of the world ,the world was becoming less hospitable to our kind, you see we Elves are very much in touch with nature and the emotions of all creatures around us, - the wars, famines, extinctions, you get the idea? Those things have started to eat in on us, with too much death and evil, Elves grow weak, that’s why the elves we send to your world cannot stay for long, your pendant, it shields you from overwhelming negativity and evil, it protects you from becoming corrupted, and trust me, a corrupted elf is worse than the demons themselves, and as much as we love to stay in your world, we simply don’t have enough of those pendants to give to all elves, so we decided, more than 200 years ago that all elves will live in a new realm. We had no choice but to withdraw or separate ourselves” ZoHal explained, his voice hinting sadness upon explaining their condition, he wrapped his right arm around my neck and shoulder as he explained and we three walked through the corridors of the tower.

“Oh... I see.. so you’re not extinct then?” I asked looking at Yal.

“Haha, of course not, we’re here aren’t we?, it seems like the spell the Elven High Circle cast more than 200 years ago has indeed made the rest believe that we are gone” Yal answered.

“Why though?, why the secrecy? Why not tell everyone else you were all ‘leaving’” I persisted on asking.

“Maybe we explain that further later okay?” ZoHal said.

“Uhm... okay” At least now it somehow makes sense a bit more, not totally, but at least I learned something.

“What we should focus now on is honing your abilities, believe me, we haven’t scratched the surface of your abilities yet” ZoHal mused.

“Wait.. what? Abilities? But how?”

“Chris, you’re not exactly an ordinary human” Yal explained.

“Oh no no... I am, I grew up in Greensburg, I have no magic, hehe, this must be a mistake, my parents are human...” I tried to explain.

“Well... how do you explain this then?” ZoHal said as he waved his left hand around the tower as if trying to let me know that all of this isn’t humanly possible or even ordinary.

“Uhm... I don’t know... I’d still like to believe this is all a dream”

“Oh dear boy, the sooner you accept that this is real, the faster we’ll be able to awaken your talents” ZoHal smiled at me.

I fidgeted a bit, what is this guy talking about. “Uhm... okay... but I have so many questions though”

“Which is understandable” ZoHal reassured me. “In time, all will be explained. Don’t worry, we’re not here to hurt you, we’re here to guide you, we’ve been looking for you, and now you are here!”

“Uhh... your highness I think we’re confusing him more” Yal interjected.

“You’re right, enough of this, let’s see what you can do” ZoHal lead us into the middle of the atrium.

The floor in the middle of the atrium was decorated with 3 concentric circles in colored in gold, which stood out from the light brown wooden floor paneling.

ZoHal said a quick incantation and in the middle of the central circle, a rather large bowl started to appear and rise from the ground.

“Woah... cool” I observed. It’s my first time seeing this kind of shit, like actual magic.

“More than cool” ZoHal smiled as then the fully formed bowl which looked to be made of solid stone started to float up to my waist level, a few incantations later from Yal, a rather cloudy water half filled the bowl.

“What’s this for?” I asked.

Yal then looked at me with a smile and slight hint of mischief in his eyes “we’re going to test what type of element you can wield”

“Element? Haha, wait seriously” I laughed a bit thinking this was all getting too crazy.

“Yeah, just try it out will you?” Yal pressed on.

“Okay... okay... hehe, you’ll just be disappointed though, okay what do I do?”

“Hold the bowl with your hands and pass your energy onto it” ZoHal explained as he guided my hand towards the floating bowl.

“Uh... okay... how do I do that? And how do I know what element I get?, if I ever get one at that hehe”

“Hmm... it can be difficult at first, confusing even, but just think of the nature and life around you, you’ll feel the energy around you, transfer it from your surroundings to your body and slowly, into this bowl” ZoHal explained.

“Uhhh... sure you make it sound so easy” it’s official I’m going crazy.

“If the water boils, you’re Fire, if the water particles float, Air, if the cloudy water becomes clear and sediments clump together, you’re Earth, if the water starts to swirl around, you’re Water”

“Uhhh... uhm, okay?... fine fine, give me a sec” I said knowing this is just a waste of their time.

“Just take your time” ZoHal said reassuring me.

I held the bowl with my hands. I tried to feel my surroundings but nothing.
I grunted in frustration. A few more seconds later still nothing. I grunted more in frustration. “Guys... this is a waste of time, I have no magic”

“Just be patient Chris, try again, don’t worry, just lose yourself into your surroundings” Yal encouraged me.

“Easier said than done” i muttered.

I held the bowl again... still nothing... I tried to quiet my mind, settle it, calm my thoughts, I thought of the elements that could possibly me under my control, I tried to recall the feeling of warmth and tingles I feel every now and then. Still nothing, seconds if not minutes of silence later, I felt it, it started as a small tingle in my feet that slowly enveloped my entire body, it was as if static surrounded my entire body, I then thought of passing the static to the bowl, at first nothing happened then moments later, my hands started to get warmer and warmer, then out of nowhere, it was so sudden!, the bowl cracked and the water quickly drained from the cracks.

I looked at ZoHal and Yal. “What did I do wrong?” I asked.

Both men just looked at me in astonishment. Then ZoHal spoke “Oh my, marvelous!, such power! you’re more than what we expected you to be, this confirms it all” he said with glee and happiness in his face, ZoHal couldn’t help himself but hug me tight. “We’ve found you, it really is you” he said as he sniffled on the crook of my neck, “We were already pretty much sure it was you ever since Yal gave you the pendant but now, this is even better, you will be a very important person in this realm”

Yal then looked at me, his eyes welling with tears, “you’re the Lost Prince”

Elves grow weak, that’s why the elves we send to your world cannot stay for long, your pendant, it shields you from overwhelming negativity and evil, it protects you from becoming corrupted, and trust me, a corrupted elf is worse than the demons themselves, and as much as we love to stay in your world, we simply don’t have enough of those pendants to give to all elves, so we decided, more than 200 years ago that all elves will live in a new realm.

This explains why Chris' mental healing was faster than normal.  He did have a lot of help, but the pendant probably helped him when he was reading the first black book in the tower.

So Chris is an elf and The Lost Prince.  I suppose my guess that ZoHal was his father was wrong.  It does seem that not only is he very powerful, but probably the focus of a prophecy.  I wonder how Leo, Victor and William will react when they find out about Chris.
