tim's Bits and Pieces - 61. A Featherless Thing

What is Depression? How does it make you feel? This is my feeling. I am just coming back from a depressive cycle.

Stay strong is often quoted to you

While your guts melt like candlewax

Each day is a Sisyphean chore

Others live free while you pay the tax

Deepening cracks the mirror exposes

The expected smile takes its toll

Living is weighty and wearisome

Never again will you be whole

Simply breathing is a Herculean trial

And love’s labours only sadness bring

The darkness is a thief of time

Depression is a featherless thing

_-_-_

Thanks for reading.

In 12 lines, you've summed up my life. Excellent poem, tim, and I had to look up Sisyphean. Thank you for sharing your words, and educating me on a new term.

sorry this is so late ... i'm glad this worked.

Powerful words, that really do sum up what depression is. Whilst I don't suffer it, my husband does so I get to see some of what you go through. Take care tim

Thanks very much, chris. You've mentioned your husband ... it helps to have support like yours.

A wonderful piece.  I too watch what you go through. I'd take it all from you if I had that power.  But I will be there beside you always.

Thank you Michael xo

This piece is so powerful.

On your worst, darkest days your poetry surpasses anything I could write at my pinnacle.

And that makes me happy. you are my example when I look for what talent with poetry looks like, tim.

:blushing:  thanks very much, Wayne xo

As several others have commented, this is a powerful piece of writing! You have expressed so much with such a few words. My emotional problem is mostly melancholy. It is pretty well controlled with medication. It can be tough for me, but I can hardly imagine what you go through in a depressive episode. Reading this poem I get a feeling for how you feel, and my heart goes out to you. Thank you for sharing.

i'm lucky in so many ways. Depression and all its bedfellows are annoying and draining, but i think it's the time it takes that is the worst. We never get those days back. Those days we spend in bed or dully in front of the TV are simply days we breathed. We cannot create or do anything more worthwhile. In those days i am often silent with most people, but with some i am angry. The ones i love the most i push away. i am lucky they are who they are and they know.

Thanks for your comments Jeffrey. i appreciate you reading and your comments on this piece. i hope you your family are staying well. xo
