Timothy - 85. Chapter 85

Morning came, and it was as if dinner never ended. Stephen was a little sleepy. Eva Marie woke up for a 2 am feeding. Eva wanted to do it, but Stephen wouldn’t let her. I slept through it all, but I knew Stephen would wake up if Eva Marie made any noise.

My usual seat was occupied, so I had to sit next to him and watch him as he fed Eva Marie.

“John, I think we have lost our daughter.”

I looked at Stephen. He blushed. “He is going to spoil our children, and I’m going to become number two.”

As I said that, I noticed Mom’s ears perk up, more grandchildren.

I watched Mom, and she seemed in a better mood. I still think she needs help.

Stephen and I left for work, walking hand in hand, “Tim, did Donnie come last night?”

“Yes, Bruce is in Canada at a subsidiary of his company in California. When we get to the office, I’ll call Judge Howard and tell him, and he will tell the DA.”

“Have you spoken to Tom lately?”

“No, I haven’t. Remind me tonight, and I’ll call him then. His classes will be over.”

“When is his summer break?”

“I don’t know; I’ll ask him when I call him tonight.”

Arriving at work, I called Judge Howard and told him where Bruce was living and working. On a whim, I called Ann Marie’s doctor and invited him and Ann Marie to dinner, and he said he would check with Ann Marie and let me know.

At lunchtime, I told Stephen about my phone calls.

“Tim, do you think there is something between Ann Marie and her doctor.”

“I don’t know. He was quick to agree to my suggestion that he goes with Mom and Dad when they took Ann Marie out for lunch the other day. Thinking back, when we visit Ann Marie, he’s always there. At first, when we started to visit her, it made sense, but now he isn’t necessary. Ann Marie is a pretty woman, and she is educated and would be an asset to any man. You can judge when they come to dinner tonight..”

“This will be the first time Ann Marie has seen our home and little Eva Marie.”

“Eva and John want her to be the godmother when they baptize Eva Marie. I’m a little concerned with John’s parents being there. I hope she doesn’t panic.”

“You have a bigger problem than how she will react. What are you going to serve for dinner? There will be ten for dinner.”

“I’ll call Mom and tell her we will have guests for dinner.”

“Tim, I’m not cooking. I can’t babysit and cook also.”

Back in my office, I called home, Dad answered. “Dad, tell Mom we will have ten for dinner tonight. You may need to go shopping, and if you do, I’ll square with you when I come home.” I knew Dad would say something to Mom, and she would make him take her shopping.

I met Stephen at the parking lot, “We need to go and pick up Ann Marie and her doctor.”

“Do you know his name?”

“Yes, his name is Alex McCallum. He was recommended by the Dean when I called concerning the university hospital for Ann Marie.”

Arriving at the hospital, “Stephen, is it normal for a doctor to hold his patient’s hand.”

He looked, then we both laughed. Ann Marie is a beautiful woman, and if she has found someone, I’m happy for her.

We drove back to the plant, “Ann Marie, this is where Stephen and I work. We usually park the car here and walk to our house. Do you feel like walking? It’s not far.”

She was the first out of the car.

Walking home, I was holding Stephen’s hand as usual. We made small talk, and Stephen explained what he did and volunteered what I did. He told them that his grandfather started the business, and he worked there while attending the university in my home state. There were the usual questions and answers, mostly making small talk.

Arriving home, before we could open the front door, Mom opened it and grabbed Ann Marie in a hug. Putting her arm around Ann Marie’s waist, she led her into the house, and Mom took over, giving Ann Marie the grand tour. We didn’t see Mom and Ann Marie from that moment on.

The doctor followed. Dad introduced him to Eva and John, as well as John’s parents.
