Timothy - 24. Chapter 24

Within a week, we ran to Stephen’s high school and back. We did start our cooldowns on the way back, and by the time we reached home, we finished with a rubdown and shower.

It felt good to be running again.

The week seemed to go fast. Stephen had converted my home office into an electronic office. When he showed Gramps one evening, he inherited an additional job. Gramps thought it was such a great idea, and he asked Stephen to take a look at the legal department and prepare a proposal with estimated costs.

When Stephen looked at me, I smiled. Stephen might not have realized it, but he was given a project that might be his introduction to an automated storage and retrieval project. I was sure other departments could utilize his systems.

“Stephen, you didn’t seem too enthusiastic about Gramps’s project for you?”

“It’ll take me away from a chip I was working on. I want to finish that project first.”

“I’ll bet that this won’t be the only project that Gramps will want you to automate. The legal department may be a test case. My guess is that once you have finished these projects, you will have an in-depth knowledge of every department in the company.”

I thought that Stephen would inherit the company from Gramps. Dad had his corporation, and I was sure Stephen would inherit that company as well. Being the only child, it was a natural deduction, and now with these projects, I was more than convinced he was heir apparent.

I loved Stephen, and I would back him on any decision he made. I would be there for him to lean on when he needed me.

Saturday, we had company. I expected Dad to be driving. He had a chauffeur, Randy. I saw his smile as I approached their car. “Stephen, come and see who has a new job as a chauffeur.”

I heard his laughter as he descended the porch stairs.

I helped Mom and Mrs. Olman out of the back seat while Stephan hugged Randy. I was glad to see them.

Stephen and Randy drove their car to park it next to ours at the company’s parking lot. I had the privilege of showing Mom, Dad, and Mrs. Olman our home. We were sitting in the living room when Randy and Stephen entered laughing.

“Will you tell us what is so funny?”

“I told Randy about our security system. He did like you did and waved. Gus called my phone and told me to be careful. I told him this was my son. Randy’s been calling me dad on the way home.”

“Stephen, show Randy our bedroom.” My mom, dad, and Randy’s mother had seen it. I was impressed when I first saw his bedroom, so were they. I knew Randy would be impressed as well.

We listened, and then we heard, “WOW.”

“He has the same reaction that I had when I first saw his bedroom. I wonder if Stephen is going to show him my office.”

Then we heard another, “Oh WOW” “He showed him my office.”

Dad wanted to know what I was doing that required such a degree of automation. I explained that I needed to know the background material until I was fully integrated into the job. “There is so much information in the files that it would take longer to sort through those files than the time I had. The man going on retirement will be leaving in a few weeks. I needed to be ready to assume his position, which means I have to be cognizant of current issues and how similar issues were resolved in the past. Stephen designed the systems in my office that allow me to search the files on a keyword. Then I can print that information or collect it digitally for future references. He did such a great job. He now has to design a system for the legal department.”

Mom and Dad were impressed. “Your grandfather would have been jealous. I remember the books and the file cabinets filled with reports. He had a person on staff that managed those files. He would envy you if he saw what you have.”

“Stephen, can you build a system like that for me?”

Another good chapter Cal. I noticed 👀 a few minor spelling and punctuation errors. In paragraph 6 Tim is talking to Stephen about "... Gramps’s project for you?”  The correct use of a possessive for a word ending in 's' is to just add an apostrophe, in that case it is Gramps' project.

In the next sentence Stephen replies: “It’ll take me away from a chip I was working on. I want to finish that project first.”  I'm not sure if 'chip' was supposed to be 'project'?

Otherwise it seems that Randy has become Stephen and Tim's unofficial adopted 'son'. With no reaction from Mrs. Olman (?), are we to assume she's acceptable to that if her health is waning? In previous chapters there's been reference to Randy possibly being adopted by Stephen's parents.  Or am I getting ahead of things? (Oops?). 😉

Keep up the writing Cal, I can't get enough of your heartwarming stories. :read:

Thank You.

I guess that was Tim's dad that asked Stephen to build him a system he's going to be one busy guy.

Does Randy want to do the same kind of thing?I ask that because if Stephen is going to inherit two businesses he'll need as many trusted allies as he can get

Randy is in high school and hasn't indicated what he wants to be in the future. He certainly looks up to Tim and Stephen. I'm not sure how Stephan will handle two businesses. I guess we will have to wait to find out.

Timothy and Stephen are getting settled into their new life.  I laughed when everyone asked Stephen to set up a system for them once they saw what he could do.  He’s making business for himself and he doesn’t even know it!

@Anton_Cloche, I don’t think Mrs. Olman minds too much that Randy has been ‘adopted’ by the guys.  They are good guys and worthy role models.  She is taking the ‘Dad’ thing as the joking thing that it is today.  If it continues, I think the two, or maybe the four, of them need to sit down and have a talk.  Mostly to smooth ruffled feathers.  The guys are not trying to take Randy away from her, but he is finding the young adult males he needs in his life in them.

If, heaven forbid, the worst happens and she becomes ill again, it’s more likely that the guys would become guardians.  If not them, then Timothy’s parents, since he is living with them.  The thing is that Randy is old enough to, technically, be on his own.  Didn’t he graduate high school, or is about to do so?  If so, he would just need a home base until he graduates college and either household would happily do that.

I think anyone would want to utilize Stephen's knowledge of computers. Certainly if he keeps showing off the office he made for Tim, he would be in demand by a lot of professionals. Mrs. Olman is coming along fine. I think a lot of her illness was self induced when she realized what Randy was doing, i.e. begging on the street. Her bond with Randy is strong as is Randy's bond with her. She believes that the relationship Randy has with Tim, Stephen and Tim's dad is healthy for a young boy. She is grateful for the care she has been given and has many more years to go before she needs to worry about who will guide Randy when she leaves this rock. She and Randy have been welcomed in Tim's home as if they are kin.

Tim and Stephan will always be there for Randy as an older brother.

A rubdown? I think the more appropriate word would've been a rubUP! 😂 Stephen's definitely got his hands full at the moment with everyone wanting a filing system like he made for Timothy. I think the boys are about to become fathers sooner than they think!

Doesn't a rub down always lead to a rubUP. It did in my day.

I asked him to build me a system like he did for Tim. He said as soon as he had time he would do it. That's been years ago 😀

It sounds like Stephen is going to be burning the midnight oil to build all of these computers programs and systems.  He may be in line to take over Gramps company and possibly his dad's.  But what if he is hired to do work for the Government, maybe some agencies within the governent.  Thing could become rather busy and take away from his time with Tim.  Just thinking out loud is all.

Tim and Stephen are very comfortable with their work and with each other.  I do hope the love continues to grow for the both of them and Randy with a girlfriend now.  Things are moving rather well for the boys and the families.

What could go wrong with this picture?

Nice work with this  story,  nothing like good families being together and enjoying each other.

Very nice.

Thank you for your work here.

Thank you. There is one person we haven't seen and that may bee the person who sours the milk

Stephen, I could do with one as well please... Gramps won't mind loaning you out to me. Tim might but Gramps won't. Loving Randy and how dad has adopted him.:thankyou:

Kev, Stephen wants to know if the English systems are compatible to the American systems. He may want to visit, could he stay with you and Tim wants to know would he be safe in your home.

Good.  It’s just that it wouldn’t be the first time a character had an illness that prevented him/her from caring from a child properly. I wasn’t sure if her condition was illness or circumstantial issues leading to health problems.  Thank you for clearing that up.
