Timothy - 32. Chapter 32

I was deep into the trial notes of the case that Gramps lost. I lost track of time, and I was startled when someone kissed me. My secretary laughed, “Hello, Mr. Jacobs.”

I looked up, and there was Stephen. “What are you doing here?”

“It’s lunchtime. I waited for you at the cafeteria, when you didn’t show up, I came to get you. We have 20 minutes before they cleared the food table.”

“I got into the case Gramps lost and forgot the time. I need to call the lawyer that wrote the prenup. I have his name on that copy of the prenup.”

“Let’s do it after lunch.”

I didn’t enjoy lunch. Ann Marie was on my mind. Mom and Dad will be obligated to her and do anything to keep the peace. It wouldn’t surprise me if Randy goes and lives with the Parkers. Aunt Clara may be occupying one of our spare bedrooms. How one ungrateful person can upset a family is outrageous.

“Tim, where are you?”

“I’m sorry, Stephen. I was thinking of home. I’ll call that lawyer now.”

I went back to my office and called the lawyer. His secretary said he was out of the office and could she take a message. I told her the reason I called and could he call me back. She said she would give him the message. Now I needed to wait.

Walking home, “Were you able to contact that lawyer?”

“No, he wasn’t in his office, but I left a message to call me back.”

Arriving home, there was a message from Randy. Eva and John had set the date of their marriage. It would be next month. “Tim, didn’t they say they wanted a fall wedding?”

“Yes, I wonder why they moved it up. I’ll call home and see what Mom knows.”

Later that evening, I did call home. I was hoping to catch Eva. Mom answered and said Eva and John had just left. I asked about Ann Marie. “She is still here.”

“Did she contact her lawyer?”

“No, Dad is going to contact him.”

“Did she get my invoice?”

“Yes, she tore it up and said there was no way she would pay it.”

“Mom, you and the family pack up enough clothes for a week and come up here. We will find out how she does alone. Tell Eva to stay away from the house while you are here.”

“Stephen, we are going to have house guests for a few days.”

“Tim, what if she destroys the house? Who is going to wait on her.”

“If I guess correctly, when she sees Mom start packing, she will ask why. When they tell her, she’ll start crying. I expect she’ll play the poor me record. I hope Mom and Dad have enough backbone to walk away ignoring her.”

The following day we got a message from Randy. “Randy sent us the latest. Here read it.”

I watched Stephen’s face as he read the message. “Looks like there is a war going on down there. I’m glad Randy can keep us informed on a minute-by-minute basis.”

“Tim, you need to get that lawyer on this. Why don’t you fly over and see him? Take your documents and get him to notify her. He probably needs to notify the family as well. Thinking about this prenup marriage, he should have known the prenup wasn’t legal since it was made after the marriage.”

‘Who knows what they told him. They could have told them they weren’t married when he drew up the prenup.”

The next day, Tim called the lawyer and made an appointment to see him. He told Stephen he had taken his advice and had an appointment with the lawyer.

“When are you leaving?”

“This coming Wednesday, I’ll fly out in the morning and return in the afternoon.”

Tuesday, Mom called and said Dad and Randy were staying home, but she and Aunt Clara are coming for a few days. Randy will drive them up. I told Stephen.

“Tim, with your Dad being there alone, will he be able to handle her?”

“Yes, Mom would give in. Dad was quite vocal every year when we got our annual Christmas Card, and the first year we didn’t get any Christmas card. He disowned her. I wouldn’t be surprised if he didn’t do it legally.”

“He probably was afraid he would be held responsible for her debts.”

“I think he did it more for the emotional impact. Before Eva and I were born, she was a daddy’s girl.”

“Maybe she thinks she still is.”

“That’s possible, but Dad hasn’t been kind to her

Chapter Comments

There's very few characters, in all the stories I read on gay authors, that I absolutely just despise ... Ann Marie is the first! To so entitled just to tear the invoice up in front of everyone and make the comment she did is disgraceful. Woe is me, I'm helpless, Everyone attend to my needs. OMG, that bitch needs a wake-up call and SOON!! .... either that or a foot in her ass right out the door!

I don't know if I should say thanks  for creating a character that has had such a negative reaction. But I have based her character on a composite of people who have crossed my life.

Holy Crap!!  Ann Marie could have played the part of the "WIcked Witch of the West in Wizzard of Oz.  Going to be interesting to hear what happens when Mon and Aunt Clara leave for a few days to stay with Ann Marie's most favorite brother, NOT.  Dad will be staying there along with Randy.  This is going to be better than a real cat fight.

I am also wondering if the wedding for Eve and John being moved up is the result of the work of dear old sis Ann Marie?   How nice it is to see how she brings the family together.  Right??

Now with the prenep that was drawn up after the wedding.  I think that may invalidate it as well.  Maybe there was some under the table dealings with Ann Marie's husband and the attorney.  There may have been more about that marriage than we know about.  TIm meeting with the attorney discussing the prenep, may open up a bigger can of worms.   Now dad and Randy will be staying in the house to watch over Ann Marie.  This will be interesting as well.  I hope that Randy stays more in the background when things begin to hit the fan.  Nothing like a good old knock-down-drag-out family feud to get things exciting.  I wonder if Randy's computer has video capabilities as well.  Put Ann Marie on camera. These next chapters can just about go any direction.  Going to be a very interesting next few chapters.

Many congrats for your writing,  reading your story sounds just like some neighbors I once had. Oh how I miss the yelling, screaming and the beating on doors for entertainment.

I did some looking into Pre-nups and found the following...

A prenuptial agreement is only valid if it is completed prior to marriage. After a couple is married, they may draw up a post-nuptial agreement.

In most jurisdictions in the US, the following elements are required for a valid prenuptial agreement: It must be executed by both parties (not their attorneys), and often notarized and/or witnessed.

Someone may be singing..."I'm in the money"....

Is this a true likeness of Ann Marie???

Wait a sec…the prenup came AFTER the I Do’s?  No, that doesn’t seem to be legal to me, either, but then, I’m not a legal expert.  She would have had to agreed to everything.  Was it witnessed?  Notarized?  If not, they may be able to easily break it and get rid of her, although she would never acknowledge any of their assistance! Even so, she would never admit to having agreed to these kind of terms.  Walk out without any reward?  Not her style.

It would have been a legal prenup if it was written and signed before the wedding. After the wedding signature would not be legal. So if she wasn't so bull headed and with Tim's help, she would be in a position to obtain financial security at least on paper,.

Knowing the greedy Ann Marie, as soon as she realizes there is money she will be gone..  I feel sorry for those that had believe she was out of their live to realize she is back with vengeance. It'll be up to Tim to straighten things out.  Wouldn't be surprised if the family of her husband hires Tim.
