Adam Blake - 56. Chapter 56
“So now I need to start looking for department heads?”
“Why, your staff knows what to do, you need a purchasing department and one purchasing clerk, an account payable clerk, you need a payroll clerk, which you have, and you need someone to go over your books once per month. We can do that for you, of course, you’ll get the family discount.”
“Ok, Dad I’ll need you to help me fill these positions. Don’t you have someone in your office that I can hire to organize everything and keep the books as well?”
“No but I’ll keep my eyes open and I’ll help you. I’ll provide support until you get someone and train them, when you do.”
“I’m so glad that this mess is cleaned up. I told the trustees we’d issue an annual report. Dad, I’ll pay your firm to do that. I trust you and I know you'll do an honest report.”
“Now what’s this story about Rusello?”
“He was hired as a custodian, can you believe that. He is a very famous artist, I knew I recognized that name, and then when I was in the Library it clicked. He’ll now teach art for me here and at the college.”
“College?”
“I forgot to mention we’ll be building a small college on the next lot. I’ll be in charge of this Academy and the college. That was part of my trip to England.”
“Wait until Mom hears that.”
“I’m not afraid of Mom, wait until Marie hears that. I won’t live it down, she’ll tease me for a long time.”
“Has she ever been here?”
“No, but she will be at the end of term. I’m planning on family day and a Renaissance Fair.”
“When are you going to hand out the medals?”
“I have to think of a ceremony to hand them out. Some little pomp and circumstance”
“Maybe your robes.”
“That’s a good idea, on a day when there isn’t any school.”
“James, do I still have an art teacher?”
“I’m not sure I know, there isn’t a Director anymore. I need someone to paint an oath on the wall between the windows. I also want to change the direction of the tables, so they are in front of the mural, but far enough so you can see all of the mural.”
“How about that kid that helped Rusello?”
“Maybe, let me talk to him and see what his printing is like. I can get Rusello to oversee his work.
“Can we see the oath?”
“Sure”
'This is the oath of a Knight of the Square Table and should be for all of us to take to heart. I will develop my life for the greater good. I will place character above riches, and concern for others above personal wealth, I will never boast, but cherish humility instead, I will speak the truth at all times, and forever keep my word, I will defend those who cannot defend themselves, I will honor and respect women, and refute sexism in all its guises, I will uphold justice by being fair to all, I will be faithful in love and loyal in friendship, I will abhor scandals and gossip-neither partake nor delight in them, I will be generous to the poor and to those who need help, I will forgive when asked, that my own mistakes will be forgiven, I will live my life with courtesy and honor from this day forward.'
“Where did you get this?”
“I got his out of a book in England that was written about the Round Table. What do you think?”
“Do you think the boys will keep this when they become men of importance?”
“I don’t think that matters, but I think part of it will stay with them. This may be an important part of their stay here at the Academy.”
“Ok, I’ll get it printed and hand it to each boy to recite as you put the medal on. And you need to be in your robes.”
“Yes, boss, James, Rusello is going to paint a mural in the new room. We should keep the boys away until the painting is done. Then we can move the furniture. Dad, Brad thanks for helping me out of this mess.”
I hugged Dad, shook hands with Brad, and walked them to the door. “James, I’m tired, I’m going to bed, see you in the morning.”
I couldn’t wait till I hit that pillow. I was out like a light.
