Adam Blake - 85. Chapter 85

At Scotty's football game

I watched as he went to sit down, My mom was about to say something when she saw who it was. She grabbed him in a hug, She said something, he pointed to me as I climbed the bleachers to their row. I sat beside Gerry, “Are Bill and Jen here yet?”

"I think Billy is sitting over there with his girlfriend." You know how when you mention someone’s name it is like they heard you. I looked and Billy saw me. He started waving and the next thing I knew he was heading toward us. “Gerry, do you know that boy heading the way.”

“I’ve seen him with Johnny.”

I stood up to get my hug, he said hello to mum and dad, he ruffled Gerry’s hair. “Adam, I want you to meet Susanna.”

“Hello. Susanna, It’s a pleasure to meet you. You’ll have to bring her to the Cabin sometime before you head off to school.”

“You’re there every weekend aren’t you?”

“Yes, except when business calls me away. We are heading there tonight, so we’ll be leaving right after the game. Where’s your mom and dad?”

They are running a little late, I think the team is meeting at our house after the game.

Billy and Susanna sat next to us, “There’s Scotty,”

“He’s looking for us. We always sit in the same place.”

“Billy stood and waved, calling his name. He looked and saw all of us, a big smile. I knew this was going to be his game.

Half-time Scotty’s team was ahead by two touchdowns. The other team changes their backfield around in hopes of tying the game. Scotty’s team switched from a running game to a passing game. I saw Scotty take a hit, I groaned, he got up and was right back in the game. “Billy, he’s your dad’s son. I’ve seen him do that often.”

The ref blew the whistle, Scotty’s team won, “He did that for you Uncle Adam.”

“No, he did that for that scout sitting over there.”

Billy looked where I indicated, “How do you know he’s a scout?”

“He has been writing in that book. I saw him right after Scotty scored, he was scribbling.”

“Should we tell Scotty?”

“No, then he'll be nervous and make mistakes. He’s got a few more years at this school.”

We waited until Scotty came out of the locker, surrounded by the team, as soon as he saw me, he jumped on me. “Did you see the game, they tried to pull a fast one. We were ready.”

“Scotty, you are truly your dad’s son. You play football exactly as he did. So where is your father?”

“I’m right behind you.”

“Bill, I watch a clone today. I see a football scholarship coming,” looking at Scotty, “Study and keep your grades up. You can be a star on the field and still work in McDonald's the rest of your life.”

“Who is this”

“This is my son, Gerry this is my closest friend, we are like brothers.”

“It’s a pleasure to met you, sir.”

“You don’t have to call him sir, he’s just my dad.”

Susanna hit him on the head, “Behave”

“What is this, she’s a Marie clone?" I gave Mom and Dad a hug, I watched Gerry do the same, Dad said something to him he nodded his head yes, and gave dad another hug.

Saying, goodbye, “See you guys at the cabin.”

I walked to my car with my arm around Gerry. “You have nice friends”

“Yes, I do and I have nice boys as well.”

The drive back to the school was quiet. “What are you thinking about?”

“We at the school are privileged, but we are not loved, like the love your mother and father give you, why is that?”

“Someone once said that the mantle of the ruling is heavy and lonely.”

“That’s true, if it wasn't for the school and having the chance to meet the boys, I wouldn’t be happy.”

“I hope the school and I can fill your life with good and happy times, so when you think about these days, the memories will wash the sadness away. Your mantle doesn’t have to be heavy, if it is shared.”

Arriving at the school, “Gerry round up these boys, Anthony, Gene, and Evan, tell them to pack for 3 days and meet me here so we can get away.” I timed him, 15 minutes we were leaving.

Arriving at the cabin late, I carried the boys in, put them to bed. Gerry slept with me again in Mom and Dad’s room

“We at the school are privileged, but we are not loved..." Gerry is really beginning to think about life and his surroundings... He misses the love that he sees being freely given to Adam. Somehow a young mind is beginning to realize that he might have everything, BUT the most important thing... Love. When you rule... you command, you order and you can force ( even execute ) but none of that engenders love to be given freely which is what he is getting from Adam and his family. “Someone once said that the mantle of the ruling is heavy and lonely.” ... Yes it is heavy and maybe it needs to be, but love conquers all and ruling need not be heavy and I think Gerry is beginning to see that because in a way Adam is ruling and he has support and love to make things happen.

Interesting that Gerry realises that the boys are missing a vital part of their lives, love and care , something that cannot be given when the boys almost never see their parents, Adam is filling a role that he did even realize before he started his crusade at the school.but it seems to be already paying huge dividends

The fact that Gerry recognized this could mean that the Knights recognize the role of Adam a a father figure. This boys share a bond.

You are right. Gerry is expressing what all the boys are feeling. There is no doubt, the boys of the Academy will never forget Adam and what he has meant to them

Gerry is realizing it because he is now experiencing it first hand.  The boys don’t even know that they are missing out, because they think this normal. This is why they are lapping up Adam’s attention so thoroughly—they are feeding and filling up on something they didn’t even know they needed.  This is why so many rulers have problems and what Adam is hoping to circumvent by establishing a close brotherhood among the boys now.  As they experience the love from Adam, his family and the right staff that he is hiring, they will start to understand how to truly relate to and support one another.  This will carry on to adulthood, and hopefully, into their own parenting.  I’m certain many will send their own children to the Academy.

BTW, when does the Girls’ Academy open?  They need this just as much!

You have stated Adam's goals very well. Your summary is right on. If I ever publish this as a book, with your permission, I'll quote you. As for a girls school, I'm sure when the needs arrive, Adam will rise to the challenge
