Adam Blake - 96. Chapter 96
Dad, I need to purchase school buses but I don’t want those yellow monsters…Hans has finished or will be finished with the chalets, I want to take the kids there for a well-deserved weekend… Yes, I have permission slips for all of the kids… I bought additional property so we can still put in a parking place for the buses… Well, if I could get a vehicle that would hold 20 kids I would be happy… I think 5 would be enough and no outside markings, I don’t want people associating the buses with the school. Alright, let me know when you have an idea or price.”
“James, do you have the information on Alex?…ok keep working on it, can you send Hans to see me…thanks, yes a cup of coffee would be nice, Doc says two would be even better.”
I watched Alex sleep, it didn’t look like he was having a good rest. “Doc, have you ever had an experience like this before?”
“A lot of people get tapeworm from eating contaminated food, but these worms aren’t tapeworms. I read an article about people catching a specific worm from swimming in infected water. According to the article, it happened mostly in tropical or near-tropical climates. This medicine was developed to provide a one-day treatment. It proved very effective. Alex’s symptoms are similar to these people who were infected. I’ll know for sure once I have completed my analysis of these worms.”
“So if these are similar then Alex must have spent at least part of the summer swimming in a tropical lake.”
“Or been in a tropical stream.”
“I wonder if any of his family might also have this infection.”
I heard a ‘sir’, ran back to the room and saw Alex trying to get out of bed, there wasn’t time, doc handed me a basin, we caught what came out of his mouth, but not the rest.
Doc brought me a wet face cloth. I wiped his face, “Don’t worry about that.” I took him to the bathroom and started the shower. “Take a shower, I don’t think you’ll have another episode, while you shower. I’ll have a bowl of soup brought here so you can eat something. By tomorrow morning, you’ll feel like a new person.”
When Alex finished with his shower, Doc had a clean gown for him. Doc and I had stripped the bed, cleaned it, and put a clean sheet ready for Alex.
Alex was nestled in bed when James brought over his soup and a large piece of bread. Alex smiled when he saw the food. I knew he’d be hungry because there couldn’t have been anything in his stomach by now. “Eat slowly Alex, your stomach is probably empty and you don’t want to eat too fast or we’ll need the pan again.” I watched him try to eat, he was tired. “Here I’ll help you.” I took the spoon and fed him, I took the bread and broke it into small pieces, put it in the soup, and fed it to him. The soup was cold before he finished. His eyes were heavy and soon he was asleep.
“Doc, have you checked the last sample?”
“Yes, I don’t think he will need another tablet. He probably will go one more time and that should do it. Give him easily digested soft food tomorrow and then he should be ok. Just watch him for a few days.”
I sat in a chair by his bed and watched him as he slept. He had a peaceful expression, his face reminded me of the cherubs you see painted in churches. Such innocence and the same is what the world will try to corrupt.
“Sir”
“Oh Hans, I’ve asked Dad to see if he could get 5 buses with 20 seats each. I’d like to take the boys to the cabin one of these weekends. How many Chalets have you finished? We’ll need, including the new students, at least 18, some of the boys could sleep in the cabin.”
“I think we’ll have that covered by the time you’re ready to bring the boys over. You might need a few boats as well, they all will want to go fishing.”
"That will be a big attraction, I also need to figure how to feed them all. Maybe we can show them how to cook for themselves. Here the Boy Scouts do it as part of their program. By the time the buses arrive, I will figure out something. You need to order bedrolls as well."
This coming weekend will be my last trip to the cabin until after the wedding. I need to get my tux and clothes for our honeymoon. It’ll give me chance to check everything out as well.
Alex woke once during the night, I helped him to the bathroom, and the good news he didn’t need a face cloth. I practically carried him back to bed. Tucked in, he was fast asleep.
Doc had his nurse stay while I went to my room for some fresh clothes. I was tempted to take a nap, but I wanted to be there when he woke.
I relieved the nurse, he mentioned I should take advantage of one of the empty beds. I thanked him and did. It wasn’t long before I was out.
I felt like I just fell asleep when I heard “sir” several times, I woke, startled for a few minutes when I realized that Alex was calling me.
“Good morning Alex, how do you feel this morning?”
“I feel fine sir.”
“Are you hungry?”
“A little sir”
I smiled, he smiled back and we both laughed. “Not starving anymore?”
“No sir, why was I so hungry all of the time? Was it those things that came out of my mouth?”
“They are parasites and they caused you to be hungry all of the time. The medication you took, causes them to leave your body, at all exits.”
His face became red. I gave him a hug, “Take a shower and get dressed, there are clean clothes on that bed for you. Then when you are done showering, I’ll shower. Once I’m dressed will go and get breakfast.”
That is what we did. Entering the Dining Hall, the boys came up to greet Alex. He was smiling as he looked at me and headed to the breakfast bar. By the looks of his plate, he still had the worms.
The boys wanted to know what happened, before Alex could tell them, “He caught a bug and the Doctor had to keep him under surveillance while he was treated. He’s fine now and the bug isn’t contagious.” I looked at Alex and winked, he smiled back.
