Adam Blake - 97. Chapter 97
In my office, I began to draft a letter to Alex’s parents. I explained to them about Alex’s medical problems and that our Dr. Montain has successfully provided treatment. I indirectly suggested that they might want to visit their family doctor.
“Your father is on the line”
“Thank James, Hello Dad… Ok, what are the dimensions… That would be more than 20…If we can seat 30 I may get by with only 4 buses. Who makes the bus?…The model is Miro Bird G5…Yes, of course, I’ll check it on the Net. Dad, I hope it isn’t school bus yellow…. Then I’ll paint it maybe we can get them unpainted… Sure try, what about the seats?… Dad, this is the Academy, I need comfortable seats and they all must have seat belts…No, I don’t need a luggage compartment under the carriage. Have them place overhead racks for luggage and make sure anything in the luggage racks is secured… Yes, something like the overhead storage on an airplane would work…No, you have been to the Academy so you can pick the color, and Dad, I don’t want the name of the Academy on the side of the bus, also I don’t want the front of the bus to look like a Semi… Is Steve’s cousin handling the deal?… When are you coming up?… Yes I’ll be at the cabin this weekend and I won’t be back until after the wedding…A very “ short one, Marie has to be at the clinic and I have to be here. The college is coming along fairly fast and I need to update the architect's drawings for the trustees… I don’t know how long but I’m sure I’ll hear about my summer seminars…. Tell Mom, hello and I’ll see you all this weekend.”
“James I need to see the architect, I want to make some changes to this building and I’m going to ask him to give me a sketch. We will eventually need more space for classrooms and dorms.”
I went and got my cup of coffee and headed to Hans's office. “Good morning Hans, yesterday we talked about adding more Chalets, I wonder if we shouldn’t place some along the hill behind the Cabin. Might make it more rustic and Gerry might feel a little like home. I’ll be at the cabin this week, maybe we could meet and look the area over.”
“If we build in the forest, we may have a problem with the solar energy for heating.”
“We may need to look for alternative ways, maybe a windmill or placing solar panels in a field and running lines to the battery complex. They use windmills to generate electricity and there must be a way to transmit that power. I’ll take look this weekend. I bought the land to the west f the cabin, maybe I should have purchased more land behind the cabin.”
Hans and I talked a little more about the meeting with the ministers and advisors of Liechtenstein. “You have a meeting in three weeks. They have been asking if you are going to go there or to the Consulate in New York.”
“Why can’t we meet here? I don’t want to take Gerry away from school any more than I must.”
“I thought you would go alone?”
“No, even though I’m the King, Gerry needs to be involved. I need his input, I’ll make the final decision, but I’m not about to turn over a kingdom to him where he has not been part of this process. See if they would be willing to come here. I’ll mention it to Gerry.” Walking out of his office, I did see the smile. I think Hans likes to be a little rebellious at times.
Walking back to my office, “James, I’m planning on having a meeting here in three weeks. I would like to use Castle Keep. What do you think?”
“Does this have anything to do with Gerry?”
“Yes”
“Here’s a gift for you”
“You know I need to come up with some standard languages and then just add notes. Writing the same sentences over and over when you are wanting to do secretary work.”
I laughed at the expression on James’s face. “I probably could answer them all for you, you are pretty repetitive.”
Now I laughed, “I’m not sure how many will be coming so we’ll probably need all of the spare dorms. We might need to configure a few student dorms as well.”
“Are you going to have to expand the building? We have enough dorms and classrooms.”
“Yes, I want to copy the architectural plans for the college’s staff and dorm accommodations. Then convert the current dorms and staff rooms into classrooms. I’d like to hire more teachers but I can’t until I have the classrooms. I’m not sure what our enrollment will be over the next few years, I didn’t expect to be as high as it was this year.”
“Not all of the new students are from government or royalty, quite a few are from private citizens.”
“I noticed that. Were they recommended?”
“I don’t know, a few letters asking for admission mentioned a family of one of our students.”
“We haven’t turned away anyone yet, but from now on, those students not from non-government or royalty will have to go on a waiting list. The school was founded for these students and they must be given priority.”
“Are you ready for your big day?”
“No, what groom is ever ready. This weekend I’ll bring my clothes over and won’t be going back to the cabin until I come back from our trip.”
“May I ask where you are going?”
“Liechtenstein”
Dinner was a noisy affair today, everyone was more excited about my wedding than I was. “Sir, you said we’d be in your wedding, is that still true?”
“Absolutely, Lord James will share with you the plans and your participation. You all have become my Knights and do you think King Arthur would get married without his Knights. No, and neither shall I. You all mean a lot to me. Let’s go and see what our cooks have prepared for Dinner.”
“Doc, what did you have in mind?”
“After dinner, I’ll tell you and get your opinion.”
