Adam Blake - 102. Chapter 102
When we landed in Vaduz, I looked out of the plane’s window, “Marie you are not going to believe this.” There, with guards in colored uniforms, was a horse-drawn carriage. “Hans, what is this?”
“It’s the traditional way for you and the Princess to arrive. The people want to see you. Seeing you on television is one thing but seeing you in person is another. Just go with the flow, as you Americans say.”
As the doors of the plane opened and the steps came down, the music began. Hans whispered, “Stop at the entrance until the music stops.”
With Marie’s hand on my arm, we approached the door and stopped. I looked at Hans, he had his arm across his chest with his hand on his heart. I did the same.
When the music stopped, the color guard formed at the base of the stairs. We were escorted to the carriage, I was amazed at this reception. As the carriage moved through the streets, people tossed flowers, one little girl brought a flower to Marie. God love Marie, she took the flower and kissed the girl on the cheek. I looked at Hans as he walked beside the carriage, he smiled. The road in front of the carriage was strewn with flowers. I waved and even shook the hands of anyone daring to get close to the carriage.
Arriving at the palace, the carriage was full of flowers. “Hans, have these flowers taken to the hospital.” The palace staff was lined up as we entered the palace gardens, the small steps were lowered, I exited the carriage and then helped Marie down. We followed Hans into the Palace but not before passing through the reception line.
“Adam, this is truly a fairy tale. The palace, horse-drawn carriage, I could never envision something like this. If I didn’t know better I would’ve thought we were at Disney.”
Hans introduced a young woman and said she would be Marie’s Lady in Waiting while she was in the Palace. “Hans, see if we can have something light to eat and then join us.”
The Sovereign Council presented themselves for an introduction to the Princess. These people were not present at the wedding. I asked them to join us for a light supper.
“Hans, how was this all organized since you and the Ministers were at the wedding?”
“Josef left right after the death of his sister and returned with her body. He was told what to do and did it.”
“What’s going to become of that man, will he be shunned because of his sister?”
“I’m not sure, his sister’s behavior was frowned upon. I’m sure she received some unwelcome comments from the small town where she lived.”
“I would like Josef assigned to the Palace. There needs to be peace. I’d also like to meet his parents and family tomorrow for dinner. Say at 1 and send the car for them. It is time that this to be forgotten.”
I could see the smile in Hans's eyes. I knew that this had his approval.
“Ladies and Gentlemen, this has been a long day, so we wish you a good night. I’d like to meet with the Ministers at 9 in the morning and I invite anyone to run with me at 6:30”
We were led to a bedroom that I had shared before when Gerry and I were here. Marie went into a separate dressing room as I took a shower and dressed for bed, as my Man Servant informed me. When Marie entered the room, there was a mischievous look in her eyes. I took her into my arms, gave her a lover’s kiss, and then picked her up and tossed her on the bed.”
She started to laugh and soon all of my concerns about not having any sexual feelings in high school and college were proven not to be true. When the alarm went off at 6, Marie awoke with a smile. “I’m glad we waited.”
“Me, too, now I need to get ready to run, I’ll see you at breakfast.” I realized with all of the attention by staff, if I’m going to run again, then I needed to be awake at 5.
I had breakfast prepared for 8 and by the time I was ready to run, it was 7. It would be a short run and as I started, Hans caught up to me. “Good morning, Hans.”
“You’re late”
“Yes, I didn’t expect the fuss this morning. It took me a lot longer to get ready than the 15 minutes it takes me back at the school.”
“We’ll just run harder”
I followed Hans as we headed back toward town. Going was easier than coming back as there was a rise from the town to the Palace. We just got back in time for me to shower and dress for the day. My man had everything laid out for me. From the clothes he selected, this was going to be a formal day.
As I approached the breakfast room, Marie had already been seated. It was just the two of us.
I smiled, “How was your run?”
“It was too short. I forgot how long it takes for the Prince to get dressed. How do you feel this morning?”
“I feel fine.”
Breakfast consisted of cereals, toast, eggs, and sausages. I had a bowl of cereal and a piece of toast with my coffee. “Today, I think I’m going to do something that will make Gerry proud.”
“Are you going to tell him before you do this whatever this is or wait?”
“No, I’ll tell him after, maybe when we get back home.”
“Must all fairy tales come to an end?”
“Yes, but with me, you’ll always live in a fairy tale.”
She smiled and mouthed, I love you.
“I need to meet with my Minister of Finance. So my lovely wife, have a great morning.” And with a kiss, I was off to see my wizard.
