Adam Blake - 148. Chapter 148

Back at school, “Adam, the Ambassador is online.”

Yes, everything is back to normal. “Hello Richard, how are you?…When?... today?… James, check and see if there is a copter about to land…This must be important. I’ll have coffee for you….yes and me.”

“Hello Ambassador, have you had breakfast?”

“No, and I’m hungry.”

“We have to have breakfast at the College. That is where Richard is”

“They grow up fast, don’t they?” I thought you don’t know the half of it.

I had to stop at the Dining Hall to say hello to my Knights. I got and gave few hugs, and some kisses on the cheeks. Then we walked to the college.

“You have had a busy week. How is the Prince?”

“He’s fine. I didn’t get a chance to talk to him as of this morning. He landed late last night, so I’ll catch up with him after dinner.”

“You did his dirty work. Is that going to be your modus operandi?”

“Yes, I’ll always have his back. After all, I’m a father prince, as he calls me. What I did was for the good of the country as well as for Gerry. I would do that for any of my sons, and so would you for Richard, speaking of Richard, be ready to be tackled.”

Then we heard a loud 'Dad', everyone turned and looked. Richard had a big smile on his face as he was hugging Richard, “Your answer is yes.”

We got in line for our breakfast, I ate my usual, but Richard piled it on. I looked at his son and patted my stomach; he laughed, “What are you laughing at?”

“The food on your tray is enough for three people.”

“I haven’t eaten since yesterday’s dinner, and I’ll probably won’t eat until supper tonight. So this has to fill the voids from yesterday and today.” We laughed. Richard hugged his dad.

We were looking for a table when the boys from the Academy pulled together the tables. I looked at Richard, “Again.”

“No, not Knights but a Circle of Kings.”

Richard looked at me; I know what he was thinking, there he goes again.

Some of the boys wanted to know if we could take a skiing vacation. I thought that was a great idea. “I’ll look into it. Maybe we can do it over the holidays. Why don’t you do some research, and we can discuss it?”

“Richard, spend some time with your son and then come to my office. We can spend the time catching up.” Of course, I had two sons in the college as well, and I took the time to see them, give them hugs, and to tell them we’d meet for supper and catch up.

Walking back to the Academy, Joe cam running. “Sir, smell this.”

“Joe, what is this? It smells great.”

“Taste it”

“It was sweet and had a hint of almonds and something else. Joe, what do you call this?” “

“I haven’t a name yet. I thought we could have a contest.”

“Sure, a great idea. How would we use it, not in soups?”

“I gave some to Caleb. He said he might have just the thing. He said we’d have it for supper.”

Now I knew where I was going to eat supper. I took the sample with me. Joe occupied a little farmhouse on the left side of the Academy, at the back of the property we bought. He said the land was very rich, he was happy, and if he’s happy, so was I.

I was on FaceTime with Gerry. With the time difference, he was nine hours ahead of me. He said Hans had brought him up to date on everything, and he was glad I handled it. He wasn’t sure if he could’ve given out the death penalty. I told him I hope he never does, and I hope I never have to. I made it clear that I would protect him and our country, and if necessary, I would do it again.

“Dad put you up to this?”

“Yes, and he was proud. It’s late; you need to get your rest, my Prince.”

He smiled as he said good night. I looked up, and there was Richard. “His dad told you?”

“There are times when I get premonitions, Gerry, and I refer to them as his Dad.” He looked at me. I knew he wasn’t sure if I was kidding or not.

“I want to know, do you always stir the pot?”

“I don’t know what you mean.”

“What you did was all over the newspapers. Now the boys who have finished school and are working in their positions (I knew what he meant) are saying that the right things need to be done, or they will call you to straighten everything out. Their benefactors are scared, and their parents are smiling, knowing their boys have a friend who will fight for them, and their enemies are quiet. How in the hell do you do these things? It’s like falling into a pile of horse manure and coming up smelling like a rose.”

“I don’t have an answer. The boys here and those who have completed their studies are very special to me. I treat them as I would Adam and Marie. I give them hugs and kisses on their head or cheeks. I hold them when they are sad. I spend my time with them. I don’t do anything special except no one, and I mean, no one is going to hurt my boys. They knew that when Arlene and company left. They are all family for me; they are excelling in school, I’m willing to make accommodations to assure they learn, I don’t think I’m doing anything different than you would do. Except, I have the boys 24-7, and you don’t. But Richard, your son understands. He loves you and would never think you wouldn’t back him. Gerry needed me to do that, and my other sons will need me also. Just tell their parents to listen to them.”

I heard James clapping. “James, stop that.”

Then my sons came in, and some sat on my lap. They all put their hands on my heart, then “Warm?” “A little hot here” Definitely at least warm.”

“Richard looked at me, and I whispered, “Go and check his heart” The boys did and then said, “Warm.”

I kissed the boys and said I would be in for a snack.

“What is this heart thing?”

“A cold heart is a mean person, and a warm heart is a good person.”

“Do they do this all of the time?”

“Yes, whenever we are together.”

“And Gerry”

“He started it.”

“Do all of the boys do it or just your sons?”

I knew he wanted to know if Richard did it, “Yes, Richard, they all do it and even some of the staff. Richard checks you out each time he hugs you. Next time watch.”

Another great chapter. I don't know if this has happened yet but I wonder what Adam does if  a Boy or Man if in college is having trouble cutting it was there anybody that had to leave yet due to bad grades?

Adam has earned himself a reputation for looking out for his boys even when they have left the Academy and College.

News in the rarefied atmosphere the boys live in travels fast I am sure. I suspect there will be other instances of 'high jinks'  and some subterfuge will be going on. Fortunately, the boys have Adam's sharp eyes looking out for them!

About time that people realised that Adam is a force to be contended with. He will go into battle with his Knights or as a lone rider whenever one of his boys is in danger or in need... What father wouldn't? ( Hold that... mine never did🤔) What loving father wouldn't? (That's better) ... I love how we know that in the background he has a whole support system checking that he is fine; from hands on heart to Marie and the kids loving him.

Absolutely awesome story :thankyou::thankyou::thankyou::thankyou::thankyou::thankyou::thankyou::thankyou::thankyou::thankyou:

Adam has earned a reputation and it is spreading among ‘his’ boys and beyond.  Nobody is going to take advantage of them thinking they are too young or inexperienced as long as he is around!  The boys will be able to gain the strength and experience they will need to become the true leaders their various positions will call for, simply because they will have this uninterrupted period of acclimation. It’s almost like an apprenticeship/journeyman program from a hundred plus years ago. The apprentice portion is the education they receive at the Academy and College, and the journeyman portion is when they are out taking their place in the real world and learning the details of their new life positions.

I hadn't look at it like that but you are right. Adam has prepared  the boys for not only their positions but life as well.

No because it won't happen.  Remember Adam's philosophy, there are no dumb kids it is just the information has not been made relevant. The study of the American-Indian Wars was an example.

In doing that he strengthens the son-dad relationship he developed at the Academy

Adam fosters communication with the boys, that is the key

I am glad you like this story.  Adam said you could be one of his boys, if you so desire.

When one puts aside pride and selfishness and concentrate making other people feeling good, it changes the life of both.

I have given some thought to your comment about apprenticeship/journeyman analogy. Isn't that what all schools should be doing? Adam's cause, to quote a cliche you hear today, no student left behind. To ascribe to that, you need to read Adam's book.

No, there are three things that are designed to prevent this. Classes are small, Teachers are required to read his book and his kiosks where he teaches students that need help. Instructors have PhD's and have been hand picked.

In Adam's mind every boy in the Academy and College is his son. That is the way he treats them and as such, he will follow them where ever they are and if they need help, he will be there

That’s what schools do do. The ‘program’ you mention has been a miserable failure based on a bad premise that students fail because they have bad teachers.  It never took into account the circumstances of the outside influences that affect those students abilities to concentrate on their education. Things like poverty, language, lack of family support, abuse, etc.  Teachers said this when the program was announced. We saw the flaws in it.  There was absolutely no way for schools to succeed.  It had failure built-in, because if your school did not show improvement each year, it would be designated a failing school.  It didn’t matter if you historically had 90% or better with graduation and college attendance, if you didn’t improve that score, you failed. It was built into the program that, eventually, every school would fail. A lot of people didn’t understand that. Many teachers saw it as an initial step to privatizing the public schools and expanding charter schools.  You have to admit that those proliferated during the program and have proven to have no better results than the public schools.

Sorry, not sorry. You hit a sore point with this issue.
