People come and go in a person's life. Skinny was one who made an immediate impact. Life isn't fair... he was shortchanged, and so were we....

Chapter 48 A Dragon Named David

 

 

Soaring in currents above the clouds

Gliding forth to another realm

Magic infuses your very being

I hope it’s heavenly what you’re seeing

 

Silken membranes hold you up

Wings imagined, a tail for balance

Doing cartwheels for your pleasure

Bursts of fire for good measure

 

Your time with us, a memory cherished

Sharing freely, thought provoking talent

Your heat of choice was fueled by words

And now you fly the path of birds

 

It makes no sense why you’ve been called

Away from those who hold you dear

You were a dragon of epic proportions

Twisting phrases in sublime contortions

 

But maybe you have other work to do

And we’re left here to tend your flames

Missing you and feeling bereft

But thankful for those pieces left

 

The loss of you I must take with grace

Though your last flight still hurts me so

I have your writings to look forward to

Read through tears and shades of blue

 

Rest well, my friend… I will remember

The poem is wonderful!

Souls never die. A soul is most visible in the interaction with others. One can say, a little part of our soul wanders to all the persons we have an impact on and makes there a new home. And from there it takes new journeys. After all I read yesterday and today in all your lovely poems and comments for Skinnydragon, I have seen immortality. I am impressed.

Thanks, Lisa. Tears for skinny come easy. I would have loved for this to be part of the collection. I wrote it a while ago and put it away. I think AC and I got our wires crossed or I misunderstood... I thought I asked him to keep me posted on his idea for putting something together, and I would think about whether I wanted to contribute... at the time he emailed I didn't want to think about it, so I probably had it wrong... anyway, I know now I should have contacted him about whether something concrete was going to be done, but I didn't. So, I wasn't aware of the posting yesterday, until it happened. My mistake. This tribute was hard for me to post, but I'm glad I did now... and seeing the wonderful collection spurred me to do so... I hope David, wherever he is, knows how much he meant to us....

Thanks, Gary. I studied poetry at school but after clashes with the teachers, I became very disillusioned and critical, and have steered well clear ever since.

Like everyone, I have been saddened by the news of Skinnydragon's illness and probable loss. I only found out this week, months after his original message, and I've been feeling guilty ever since for not sending him a message of support at a time when he may have been able to read it. He never let me down when I ask him for advice or needed a little confidence boost, so I probably owed him that at least. Your poem was the first that I have read in 14 years, and the only reason I did so was because it was written for him. I've now read it 3 times and enjoyed it more each time.

Thanks, Dodger. Your words and your PM meant a lot. I'm pleased my poem gave you something. If there's one thing I'm sure of, skinny would agree you should not feel guilty. You didn't know, so how could you send him a message. You said it yourself... he never let you down... he understood how this site works... there are times when we come and go, and he would never judge you or anyone else. The only thing you or any of us owe him is to remember him, and read his gifts once in a while... speak his name into the air... and smile when we do. I plan on getting there... I'm counting on time to ease us all through. Much respect, my friend... Gary
