Adam Blake - 115. Chapter 115

I called my bank and instructed them to transfer 600,000 dollars to the county’s account. I also instructed them to notify the bank that the money was to be put into an escrow account pending the sale of some property.

“James, we need to go to the bank.”

When we walked in, I asked to see the manager. They asked who I was I told them. “Dr. Blake, it is nice to meet you. We have just received a wire transfer from your bank.”

“Let’s talk about that, I’d like to see all of the county’s accounts for the past 6 years.”

“I’m sorry sir, we can’t give that information out.”

I picked up his phone, called my bank, I identified myself, told them what I wanted them to do, handed the phone to the manager. I watched as his face went white. “I’m sorry sir, I didn’t know who you were?”

“Do I get the accounts now?”

“Yes sir”

I called Dad, “Dad, I need you to fly one of your men to the county bank… good direct him here I’ll wait for him.”

“Brad is on his way to do the mid-year annual report." Speaking to the manager, " I’ll have one of my men review those files."

“In fact, I hear him arriving now.”

James went to get Brad. “Hello Brad, this is the bank manager who had pulled all of the county files for the last 6 years. What I’m looking for is any checks made out to an individual rather than a company.”

He smiled, I think he really enjoyed doing this. “Brad, once you’re ready to leave, call me and I’ll send a car for you. Sir, you’ll see that he isn’t disturbed and you’ll provide him with any assistance he’ll need, and for that I thank you.”

“You’re angry?”

“Yes, I’m very angry. We think of corrupt politicians on a state scale not on a county scale. I have some trustees to fry as well.”

“Come let's go and have some dinner.”

“The Dining Hall is closed.”

“Come on, I think I may have a little pull.”

Walking back into the school, I was already calming down. Entering the Dining Hall, I headed for the kitchen. “Caleb, can you fix something for two busy men.”

“I have leftovers from dinner that I haven’t put away.”

“That’s good and it’ll do, but not too much for me. Lord James can make up his own mind.”

“I had a bowl of soup and a salad, for me that was enough. Lord James had the same plus a sandwich. “Thank Caleb. Did you enjoy your weekend?”

“I never cooked as much fish as I did that weekend. But it was fun.”

Waking into the office, James pulled a fax.

It was from one of the trustees, and there was no way he was going to pay for a semi-annual financial report. I sent a fax back, “There isn’t and won’t be a semi-annual report. You all will be sued for fiscal malfeasance since no taxes have been paid on the property for the last 6 years. The property has a lean against it and according to my information, it has been sold for tax liens."

I waited for 15 minutes, the phone rang, “Hello Ambassador…because you always call when the trustees have a problem… yes that’s correct, the tax books show no tax as being paid…yes I understand in accordance with tax laws when a property has a tax lean it can be sold at auction in order to satisfy that lien…I’m not sure but from what information I could gather, we are in arrears for 600,000 thousand dollars… yes that’s a lot of money and the school could have paid it but we can not find any tax receipts nor do the records show it was paid…I’m having an audit done on the bank account to determine if there was more chicanery… I sent a letter to the trustees, actually faxed it, that I would be suing for fiscal malfeasance… yes but this is a US cooperation and we have extradition treaties with all of these countries…absolutely, I’ll have them extradited to the States and prosecuted…ok, get back to me.”

“Is all of that true?”

“Yes, of course, I won’t do it but I’ll build a fire under them that’ll singe a few hairs where you know where.”

“Remind me to never get on your bad side.”

Then a call from a trustee, “Hello this is Dr. Blake… of hello sir how may I be of assistance…yes that is correct… the buses were paid by a donor… no sir, we’ll not do a midyear review… you may wish to have it done and pay for it…no sir it isn’t a requirement of a US corporation…yes sir the school was incorporated under the laws of the US…I’m not being belligerent…if you and the other trustees are interested then you can pay for it…yes it will cost 75000 US dollars…I’m sorry you feel that way… again sir, I have a contract and unless you want to pay me the amount for canceling my contract, I’ll be here…goodbye sir.”

“That was an interesting conversation. I think we need the army.”

“Let’s wait until the first salvo is tossed. No word from the Ambassador?”

“Nope, there’s someone here who wants to see you.”

“Hello Jonathan, how may I serve you.”

I think Adam's army needs to hear about it and set the the touch paper burning... I see all hell breaking loose. Handy when you own a bank, being able to transfer the funds to purchase the lien...

It will be fun to see what the cheques reveal and who is the name revealed. If not the old regime then it is bound to be the trustees.

Forgot to add... flaming excellent chapter, loved every word 🥰🥰🥰

You are a loyal reader and I'm beginning to feel I know you on a more personal level. Yes, there will be flames over the heads of the trustees.

I am wondering if the Ambassador is the weasel in the wood pile?

Adam has a lot of confidence in him. His son is a student and it appears when the Trustees are up to their tricks, he knows and warns Adam.

How is it that there was no responsible person that inquired about taxes being paid and it went on for 6 years? For a place that was supposed to run by educators it was more like a ship of fools

Like many committees.  A lot is talked about, but sometimes, not a lot gets done because ‘someone else’ will do it.

I'm not sure what Brad found but I do know some one will threaten to sue. Then we will know

Yes iy' the "Let Joe do it" and no one tells Joe. Greed seems to be connected to this school.
