Headstall's Reflections - 93. Chapter 93 The Demon King
The Demon King
A big black crow landed near
Staring me in the eye
Bold he was, showing no fear
And startling me with his cry
Who was he to yell at me?
Not once, not twice, but thrice
I stared back, hoping he'd flee
But would settle for him being nice
He cocked his head, eyes now glowing red
Hopping not once, not twice, but thrice
Again, screeching like the dead
Insisting only my leaving would suffice
Indignant, I rallied and stood my ground
Not willing to be chased away
Prepared to match this beast round for round
And keep the ungodly creature at bay
He cawked again—I swear a grin he bore
And soon his troops began to land
Not once, twice, thrice, but more
And the one became a feathered band
Giants all, with eyes of blood
And beaks ideal for stabbing meat
More flew close like an evil flood
So, an abashed man beat a careful retreat
There are times one knows his limits
When the odds are stacked too tall
I could choose to be torn to bits
Or retreat behind nearest wall
Fiery eyes watched me slink beyond the gate
And some soldiers hopped thrice and more
Daring me to tempt my fate
Their eagerness for battle at the fore
All bow to the majestic demon king
Whether real or figment of my mind
I accept it's not always my song to sing
Much smarter and safer to bide my time
Some might call me a fool to annoint
For he was only a common crow
But if that's you take, you've missed the point
That there's some matches you should throw
I've battled my demons many times
And have certainly conceded my share
I've yet to figure out my crimes
But of battle tactics, I'm well aware
